Engineering Lead (AI-Native Systems)

About the Role
Our client is seeking a hands-on Engineering Lead to define and scale the next generation of AI-native engineering systems. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of AI orchestration, functional programming, anddistributed infrastructure.
You'll collaborate closely with product and operations leadership while guiding a small, high-impact engineering team building autonomous, AI-assisted development workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- AI Systems Leadership: Architect, build, and operate agentic, AI-assisted systems enabling code generation, automated review, and multi-agent collaboration.
- Infrastructure Ownership: Manage a broad distributed environment across Cloudflare Workers/Durable Objects (edge), AWS ECS/Fargate (cloud), Confluent Kafka and Apache Flink (streaming), Pulumi (IaC), and Firebase (data operations).
- Security Alignment: Partner with the CISO and legal counsel on SOC 2 readiness, GDPR compliance, and consent architecture.
- Hands-on Contribution: Write and review production-level code while setting the technical direction for the team.
Requirements:
- Proven track record building and operating AI agent orchestration systems in production environments.
- Deep expertise in Effect.ts and functional programming paradigms (fp-ts or equivalents in Scala/Haskell/OCaml).
- Strong experience with event-driven, edge-first, and multi-cloud architectures.
- Familiarity with data privacy frameworks, cookie consent systems, and compliance processes (SOC 2, GDPR), ideally through collaboration with legal or privacy teams.
- A hands-on, technically driven leadership style that emphasizes code quality and architectural excellence.
