Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis of energy companies, energy markets, and industry trends to identify investment and trading opportunities.
- Analyze financial statements, operating metrics, production data, and cost structures to assess company performance and financial health within the energy sector.
- Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and valuation analyses for energy-related securities, projects, or commodities.
- Monitor and interpret commodity prices (oil, gas, power, carbon), supply-demand dynamics, geopolitical risks, and regulatory developments affecting energy markets.
- Collaborate with portfolio managers, traders, and investment teams to develop sector-specific investment strategies and provide actionable recommendations.
- Prepare and present energy market reports, sector outlooks, and investment proposals to internal stakeholders or clients.
- Track the performance of recommended investments and update views as market conditions change.
- Stay current on technological advancements, energy transition trends, ESG considerations, and policy changes impacting the energy industry.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of research methodologies, data analytics, and sector coverage processes.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate complex market, financial, and technical data.
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative research capabilities, including financial modeling and forecasting.
- Solid understanding of energy markets, commodities, power markets, and upstream/downstream industry dynamics.
- Proficiency in using financial and market data platforms (e.g. Bloomberg, Reuters, energy market databases).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex energy market concepts clearly.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, market-driven environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, engineering, energy studies, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an energy analyst, commodities analyst, or in a related research role within financial services, trading, or energy companies.
- In-depth knowledge of global energy markets, economic principles, and investment analysis.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, valuation methods, and sector-specific performance metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to generate high-quality research and actionable investment insights.
