Job Description

Job Purpose

The Electrical Engineer / Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of shipboard electrical systems for new-build vessels. The role ensures that all electrical works are executed in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and construction schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the installation of shipboard electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, navigation, communication, CCTV, alarm, and monitoring systems.
  • Coordinate and monitor cable routing, cable tray installation, cable pulling, termination, and cable penetration sealing works.
  • Oversee the installation and wiring of switchboards, motor control centres, control panels, junction boxes, sensors, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Ensure electrical installations comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, applicable standards, and project requirements.
  • Conduct and witness inspections, insulation resistance testing, continuity testing, loop checks, and functional testing activities.
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and integration testing of electrical systems with vessel propulsion, control, navigation, and communication systems.
  • Liaise with engineering, production, quality assurance, commissioning teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Coordinate electrical activities with other disciplines to prevent work clashes and support timely project completion.
  • Monitor work progress and maintain inspection records, test reports, punch lists, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations, project quality requirements, and company procedures.
  • Participate in shipyard, owner, client, and regulatory inspections as required.

Requirements

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

  • Experience in marine, shipbuilding, offshore, industrial, power generation, or heavy engineering projects.
  • Experience supervising electrical installation, testing, commissioning, or maintenance activities.
  • Experience with vessel electrical systems, shipboard power distribution, navigation systems, communication systems, or marine automation systems will be an advantage.
  • Experience in naval vessel, patrol craft, high-speed craft, or commercial shipbuilding projects will be an advantage.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of electrical installation practices, cable management, testing, and commissioning processes.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, cable schedules, and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and commissioning procedures.
  • Understanding of marine electrical systems, control systems, instrumentation, and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of classification society requirements and shipbuilding quality standards.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical reports, inspection records, and project progress updates.
