Electrical Engineer - HVAC & Ducting Construction Projects

Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising electrical works associated with HVAC systems and ducting installations in construction projects. The role ensures that electrical installations, power supplies, control systems, and HVAC equipment connections are executed according to approved drawings, project specifications, safety standards, and project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities

• Review electrical and HVAC shop drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
• Supervise installation of power and control cabling for HVAC equipment.
• Coordinate electrical connections for AHUs, FCUs, ventilation fans, smoke extract fans, and duct-mounted equipment.
• Ensure proper installation of control panels, VFDs, thermostats, sensors, and BMS interfaces.
• Verify cable routing, cable tray installations, and equipment terminations.
• Coordinate with mechanical and MEP teams to avoid installation clashes.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues related to HVAC systems and associated equipment.
• Support testing, commissioning, and functional performance verification.

Project Management Responsibilities

• Plan and monitor electrical installation activities according to project schedules.
• Coordinate manpower, materials, subcontractors, and equipment resources.
• Monitor project progress and prepare status reports.
• Attend coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
• Ensure timely completion of electrical works within budget and schedule.

Quality Control Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Prepare and submit inspection requests (IRs).
• Verify quality of cable installations, terminations, panel wiring, and equipment testing.
• Ensure compliance with local electrical codes and project standards.
• Resolve quality issues and non-conformance reports (NCRs).

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

• Ensure adherence to electrical safety procedures and site regulations.
• Monitor permit-to-work requirements and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Ensure safe working practices during energization and testing activities.
• Report and investigate safety incidents as required.

Testing & Commissioning

• Assist in pre-commissioning and commissioning of HVAC equipment.
• Verify motor rotation, electrical loads, and control sequence operations.
• Perform insulation resistance and continuity testing.
• Coordinate testing with consultants and commissioning teams.
• Support preparation of commissioning reports and documentation.

Documentation & Reporting

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
• Maintain testing records and commissioning documents.
• Review and update as-built drawings.
• Prepare material submittals and technical documentation.
• Support project handover documentation and O&M manuals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3-8 years of experience in construction, MEP, HVAC, or building services projects.
• Experience with HVAC electrical systems, controls, and commissioning.
• Knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Office, and electrical design software.
