Job Description

About the job

We're looking for an Electrical / Embedded Engineer to own the electrical and embedded systems that power our robots and field hardware. You will design, bring up, and debug boards, power systems, motor drives, sensor interfaces, and firmware-adjacent integration so mechanical and software teams can ship reliable machines.

This is a hands-on robotics role with high stakes in the field: your designs affect safety, uptime, serviceability, and how quickly we can iterate on new platforms.

What you'll do

  • Design, review, and iterate schematics and PCB layouts for robot compute, power distribution, motor control, sensing, and interface boards
  • Select and validate components (MCUs, PMICs, regulators, motor drivers, connectors, protection, and passives) for performance, cost, and manufacturability
  • Bring up new hardware: bench testing, firmware collaboration, calibration support, and structured debug of power, signal integrity, and EMI issues
  • Develop and maintain wiring harnesses, interconnect standards, and assembly documentation for prototypes and production builds
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, encoders, cameras, and safety-related I/O with the broader robot architecture (including ROS / ROS 2-facing interfaces where applicable)
  • Partner with mechanical engineers on enclosure fit, thermal management, strain relief, grounding, and service access
  • Support field deployments: diagnose electrical failures, propose design fixes, and close the loop from service feedback to durable product changes
  • Establish test plans, manufacturing checks, and revision control for electrical releases aligned with fleet operations

What we're looking for

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Proven experience designing and shipping PCBs for embedded or electromechanical products (schematic capture, layout, DFM, and bring-up)
  • Strong fundamentals in power electronics, analog/digital design, signal integrity, and protection (ESD, fusing, reverse polarity, etc.)
  • Hands-on proficiency with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, loads) and systematic debugging
  • Experience with microcontrollers and embedded software collaboration (C/C++, RTOS, drivers, communication buses)—you do not need to be a full-time firmware engineer, but you must work effectively with one
  • Familiarity with common interfaces and protocols in robotics (CAN, Ethernet, USB, I2C, SPI, UART, GPIO, PWM)
  • Comfort owning cross-functional problems from concept through validation on real hardware
  • High agency, strong judgment, and a bias toward building and testing

Nice to have

  • Experience with robot power systems: battery management, hot-swap, charging, and high-current motor drives
  • Exposure to functional safety concepts, E-stop chains, or industrial-rated I/O for deployed machines
  • Familiarity with ROS / ROS 2 hardware integration, Jetson or similar edge compute platforms, and sensor suites (cameras, IMU, LiDAR)
  • EMC/EMI mitigation experience for noisy electromechanical environments
  • Experience with harness design tools, IPC standards, or contract manufacturer workflows
  • Background in teleoperation rigs, mobile robots, manipulator arms, or human-scale interaction hardware

Who you are

  • You want your boards and wiring to keep robots running in the real world, not just passing bench tests once
  • You care about reliability, serviceability, and designs that scale from prototype to fleet
  • You are ambitious, fast-moving, and comfortable collaborating across mechanical, software, and operations
  • You like hard problems where electrical choices directly affect product outcomes
  • You want to help define the electrical foundation of intelligent machines built for long-term deployment

What we are looking to build

A coherent electrical platform for our robots and supporting field hardware: robust power and control electronics, clean sensor/actuator integration, and bring-up practices that let the rest of the stack move fast without fighting hardware instability.
