Role Purpose
The Regional EHS Manager is responsible for
establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving the DayOne Environment, Health & Safety Management System (EHSMS) across the region.
This role focuses on
governance, capability development, training, and safety culture influence, ensuring consistent implementation of DayOne EHS standards while enabling regional teams to apply them effectively in local contexts.
The role acts as a
system owner and cultural leader, strengthening EHS maturity, decision‑making capability, and learning across DayOne operations.
Key Responsibilities
- EHS Management System (EHSMS) Ownership & Governance
- Own and maintain the DayOne EHS Management System at regional level.
- Ensure alignment of the EHSMS with:
- ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and other relevant standards
- Regulatory requirements
- DayOne values and operating model
- Review, develop, and update EHS policies, standards, procedures, and tools to ensure they:
- Are fit‑for‑purpose
- Reflect work‑as‑done
- Support decision‑making rather than bureaucracy
- Drive consistent EHSMS implementation across sites while allowing controlled local flexibility where appropriate.
- EHS Capability, Training & Competency Development
- Develop and maintain a regional EHS training and competency framework aligned with DayOne requirements.
- Identify capability gaps across leadership, management, supervisors, and EHS practitioners.
- Design or oversee delivery of EHS training programs, including:
- Leadership safety fundamentals
- Risk and high‑energy hazard awareness
- Incident learning and investigation
- EHSMS application and assurance
- Work with regional and site leadership to ensure EHS competencies are embedded into roles and responsibilities.
- Safety Culture & Behavioral Influence
- Act as a culture influencer to strengthen a learning‑focused, proactive safety culture within DayOne.
- Promote principles aligned with:
- Human & Organizational Performance (HOP)
- Growth mindset
- Psychological safety
- Partner with leaders to:
- Strengthen field engagement quality
- Encourage speaking up and stop‑work authority
- Shift mindsets from compliance‑driven to learning‑driven safety
- Assess safety culture maturity and support targeted improvement actions.
- Regional EHS Performance & Assurance
- Establish and monitor regional EHS performance indicators, including leading and lagging measures.
- Review trends, patterns, and weak signals across sites to identify:
- System weaknesses
- Capability gaps
- Cultural influences on performance
- Plan and oversee EHSMS audits and assurance activities, tracking findings to effective closure.
- Provide regular regional EHS performance reports and insights to the EHS Director.
- Incident Learning & Continuous Improvement
- Oversee learning‑focused reviews of significant incidents and near misses.
- Ensure investigations focus on:
- System and condition‑based factors
- Decision‑making context
- Organizational influences
- Drive the consistent application of lessons learned across sites and functions.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen EHSMS effectiveness.
- Regional Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the regional EHS subject matter expert within DayOne.
- Engage with regional leadership teams to influence strategic decisions impacting risk, resources, and priorities.
- Build strong relationships across functions to integrate EHS into business planning and execution.
- Support site EHS teams through coaching, mentoring, and professional guidance.
- Global & Cultural Considerations
- Support consistent EHSMS application across diverse cultural and regulatory environments.
- Understand how cultural norms influence:
- Risk perception
- Authority and escalation
- Communication and decision‑making
- Adapt engagement and training approaches accordingly, while maintaining DayOne minimum EHS expectations.
- Influence EHS outcomes through credibility, trust, and consistency.
