Role Overview
The firm is seeking a highly skilled Economist to join its Global Research team in Singapore. The role involves producing indepth economic analysis with a strong emphasis on China and the wider AsiaPacific region. The successful candidate will contribute to macroeconomic research, quantitative modelling, and datadriven insights that guide investment decisions across multiple asset classes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct macroeconomic and fundamental research on China and APAC economies, including policy analysis and market impact assessments.
- Perform quantitative analysis, econometric modelling, and scenario forecasting to support investment strategies.
- Utilise coding and data analytics tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL) to enhance research outputs and improve process efficiency.
- Monitor and interpret economic indicators, central bank policies, and geopolitical developments affecting global markets.
- Collaborate with portfolio managers and traders to translate research into actionable investment ideas.
- Prepare high-quality research reports, presentations, and real-time commentary for internal stakeholders.
- Explore alternative data sources and innovative research methodologies to strengthen predictive capabilities.
- Maintain and update proprietary economic models and dashboards.
- Participate in cross-functional discussions to ensure research alignment with broader macro views.
Qualifications
Education
- Achieved or on track for a First Class degree (or equivalent) from a leading institution.
- Master's degree in Economics, Finance, or Data Science preferred.
Skills
- Strong foundation in macroeconomics and applied econometrics.
- Proficiency in quantitative research, statistical modelling, and data visualisation.
- Coding experience (Python, R, MATLAB) strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with financial markets, derivatives, and global macro strategies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to express complex ideas clearly.
