The Director, R&D Singapore is responsible for managing all aspects of assigned scientific instrumentation development by effectively initiating, planning, scheduling, and testing multiple, large, high profile, high priority development projects across Capillary Electrophoresis (CE), Liquid Chromatography (LC) and Acoustic Ejection Mass Spectrometry (AEMS) product lines. This position is part of the Hardware and System Development team and will be located in Singapore, leading the local R&D team. This role will be instrumental in helping the team meet an ambitious product roadmap through developing the core technologies, and the associates and teams working on them, enabling the next generation of scientific instrumentation especially in the realms of CE, LC and AEMS

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of Research and Development from Capability Development to Sustaining Engineering for assigned product lines (CE, LC, AEMS)
  • Manage departmental budget - annual budgeting, monthly reporting and management
  • Apply DBS to promote continuous improvement by conducting, documenting, and communicating lessons learned
  • Liaise with Project Management Office and Product Management teams to devise Rationalize Roadmap for assigned product lines
  • Formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance for the department specifically focused on technology leadership
  • Lead early-stage involvement and partnership with supply chain and vendors critical for long term needs
  • Champion professional development: ensure continuous career development, training planning, performance management, and hiring processes for associates and candidates

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in any of Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related field
  • 10+ years experience in system, software or hardware development, project management, process development and resource management
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated leadership experience in building teams and organizational development
  • Experience with managing a matrixed organization, including suppliers and/or offshore resources
  • Experience with managing $2M+ engineering/development budgets
  • Ability to manage 5 or more independent development projects

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel - 10-15% travel, overnight, across globe

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • DBS and/or Design for Six Sigma, DoE usage and utilization
