Role Overview
The Director / Senior Director of R&D Laboratory (Power Electronics and Systems) is a key member of the Singapore leadership team, reporting directly to the Singapore General Manager. This senior executive role has full accountability for the strategic leadership and operational excellence of the Singapore R&D site, while ensuring strong alignment with the Group's global technology roadmap defined by Taiwan Headquarters.
The role serves as the primary strategic bridge between Singapore-based R&D operations and HQ-led core research initiatives, translating global technology direction into local execution that supports regional and global growth.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Local Leadership
- Partner closely with the Singapore General Manager to define and execute the R&D lab's strategy, ensuring alignment with regional business priorities, growth objectives, and P&L requirements.
- Shape the Singapore R&D site as a strategic enabler of the Group's long‑term technology and product roadmap.
HQ Integration & Global Alignment
- Maintain deep, continuous collaboration with the Global Head of R&D and senior stakeholders in Taiwan to ensure tight alignment across technology strategy, product development cycles, IP management, and technology transfer.
- Act as the primary point of integration between Singapore R&D activities and Taiwan‑led global research programs.
Center of Excellence Leadership
- Lead the Singapore R&D Lab as a Group Center of Excellence, ensuring locally developed technologies, platforms, and innovations are fully integrated into the global product portfolio.
- Drive technical excellence, innovation velocity, and disciplined execution across assigned research domains.
Executive & Cross‑Border Liaison
- Serve as the senior interface between Singapore‑based engineering teams and Taiwan‑based functional heads to resolve complex technical issues, align priorities, and optimize cross‑site resource sharing.
- Provide clear executive‑level communication on technical risks, trade‑offs, and investment decisions.
Laboratory Governance & Infrastructure
- Oversee the development and continuous enhancement of laboratory capabilities and infrastructure.
- Ensure full compliance with Singapore regulatory requirements as well as the Group's global quality, safety, and governance standards.
External & Government Engagement
- Represent the company in strategic engagements with Singapore government agencies (e.g., EDB, A.STAR), research institutions, and industry partners, under the guidance of the Singapore General Manager.
- Support national‑level collaborations, grants, and joint research initiatives where appropriate.
Talent & Capability Development
- Build, lead, and retain a high‑performing R&D organization in Singapore.
- Promote talent exchange, rotation, and collaboration programs with Taiwan HQ to ensure strong cross‑pollination of expertise, culture, and leadership capability.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of R&D experience within the electronics and/or manufacturing sector, including at least 5 years in a Senior Director or equivalent executive leadership role.
- Fluency in both Mandarin and English is required to effectively perform the role, which involves frequent technical and strategic discussions with Mandarin‑speaking R&D and executive leadership in Taiwan, as well as English‑speaking stakeholders in Singapore and globally.
- Proven experience leading cross‑border R&D collaboration, including technology transfer between Taiwan and international sites.
- Strong understanding of global power electronics markets, with the ability to translate long‑term HQ technology vision into actionable local R&D programs.
- Track record of advising and reporting to General Management or C‑suite stakeholders on R&D investment, technology strategy, and organizational scaling.
