Job Description

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) was established as an independent, non-profit organisationon 1 August 2021 to help international shipping decarbonise through pilots andtrials. Its mission is to support decarbonisation through four pillars: shapingstandards, deploying solutions, financing projects, and fostering collaborationacross sectors.

GCMD was founded with the support of industry partners, alongsidefunding from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for qualifying research and development programmes. Since itsfounding, GCMD has expanded its ecosystem to include more than 130 centre- andproject-level partners contributing funds, expertise, and in-kind support topilot, accelerate the deployment, and scale the adoption of decarbonisationsolutions.

GCMD has launched four key initiatives to close technical andoperational gaps in: enabling ammonia as a marine fuel, developing an assuranceframework for drop-in green fuels, unlocking the carbon value chain throughonboard carbon capture and articulating the value chain of captured carbon dioxide, as well as closingthe data-financing gap toscale the adoption of energy efficiency technologies.

GCMD is strategically located in Singapore, the world'slargest bunkering hub and busiest transhipment port.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Director of Projects, you will join a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary team driving real-world decarbonisation pilots and trials. The Projects team spearheads high-impact, global initiatives across several critical pillars including alternative fuels, the carbon supply chain, energy efficiency technologies, and data insights. In addition to leading projects, you will play an important role in translating their findings into actionable industry insights, amplifying their impact through publications and stakeholder engagement, and representing GCMD at relevant external platforms.

We believe that complex industry challenges cannot be solved in silos. In this role, you will work closely with peers to support one another through the end-to-end lifecycle of project ideation and scoping. By leveraging each team member's unique experience and technical skillset, we co-create robust, evidence-based solutions that accelerate the maritime energy transition.

Strategic Planning and Development

. Contribute to the development and prioritisation of GCMD's strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with its mission and organisational priorities.

. Identify and assess emerging challenges, technology developments and industry gaps that may warrant GCMD intervention.

. Originate and shape new projects by defining the problem statement, intended outcomes, potential industry impact and GCMD's role.

. Evaluate the technical, operational and commercial rationale for prospective projects, including resource requirements and potential implementation pathways.

. Engage industry, government agencies, research institutions and other stakeholders to validate needs, develop project concepts and secure participation.

. Develop project proposals and recommendations for consideration by the leadership team and Board.

Project Execution and Delivery

. Lead approved projects through their full lifecycle-from ideation and scoping through execution, completion and close-out.

. Establish project objectives, deliverables, workplans, schedules, budgets, success criteria and governance arrangements.

. Oversee delivery to ensure that project activities are completed safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required technical and quality standards.

. Manage project budgets, expenditure, forecasts and funding requirements, and provide timely explanations of material variances.

. Identify and manage technical, operational, financial, regulatory and reputational risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation.

. Monitor performance against agreed milestones and outcomes, manage changes in scope and take corrective action where necessary.

. Manage project partners, vendors and other stakeholders, resolving issues and maintaining execution momentum.

. Provide regular, decision-oriented updates to the leadership team and Board on progress, risks, financial position and matters requiring intervention.

. Lead project close-out, including evaluating outcomes, documenting lessons learned, completing contractual and financial obligations, and identifying opportunities for adoption, follow-on work or scale-up.

Thought Leadership, Publications and External Representation

. Lead the translation of project findings and technical insights into high-quality publications, including reports, white papers, knowledge pieces, industry guidance and opinion pieces.

. Work closely with the Communications team and project partners to develop clear and compelling narratives that make GCMD's findings accessible and relevant to industry, policymakers and other stakeholders.

. Serve as a spokesperson and subject-matter representative for GCMD, presenting project findings and perspectives at conferences, industry forums, media engagements and other external platforms.

. Develop and deliver presentations, briefings and other communication materials to amplify project outcomes and support their adoption by industry.

. Identify opportunities to extend the reach and impact of GCMD's work through industry dialogue, partner networks and appropriate communication channels.

External Engagement Roles

. Engage with industry, institutes of higher learning and knowledge centres to keep abreast with developments

. Work closely with relevant government agencies to commence projects / pilots

. Hold regular dialogues with industry to ensure strategic alignment and project ideation

. Act as a liaison for international collaboration and engagement with overseas entities

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS,EXPERIENCE
. Minimum honours degree from a recognised University inengineering or sciences

. Minimum 8 years working experience with at least 6 years in themaritime or energy sector

. Strongwritten and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complextechnical findings into clear, compelling and actionable insights for industry,policymakers and other stakeholders. Experience authoring publications andpresenting at industry forums would be advantageous.
