We are looking for a Director to join our Package Development & Engineering team (PDE)
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to collaborating with internal and external partners to building and implement strategies aligned to organizational and business objectives by delivering high performing and cost-effective advanced packaging solutions on time with highest quality and predictable reliability performance. Other responsibilities include ensuring organizational compliance to company policies, departmental procedures, providing organizational leadership for building and implementing department strategies, processes, and policy through active participation in functional teams and projects.
As the Director, PDE Advance Packaging NPI, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Advanced Technology PEE & PIE team within PDE. This Director-level role is responsible for overseeing the New Product Introduction (NPI) execution for advanced packaging technologies, driving cross-functional alignment across Process Engineering, Process Integration, MRDA, PCS, and Quality teams to ensure successful, on-time product qualification and transition to High Volume Manufacturing (HVM).
You will lead a team of engineers and managers, set the strategic & tactical direction for NPI activities, and engage with senior stakeholders across PDE, APTD, Global Quality, and Manufacturing to deliver Micron's technology roadmap commitments.
Set strategic direction and lead the PDE NPI team through all phases of New Product Introduction - ensuring systematic, repeatable, and on-schedule qualification into HVM.
Own the accountability for NPI execution plans, deliverables, and milestone achievement across all assigned products and technology nodes.
Define and drive organizational Defense Line readiness for NPI deployment, ensuring all quality control plans, OCAP/SPC charts, and FMEA frameworks are in place prior to product release.
Partner with APTD, PDE, PSE, Global Quality (GQ), TSE, Site Manufacturing, and Central Planning to align NPI strategy, identify risks early, and drive resolution.
Serve as the key liaison between PDE and Global AT site teams, ensuring alignment on process transfers, tool readiness (TIQ), and qualification schedules.
Lead cross-functional reviews, Phase Gate Review (PGR) meetings, and executive-level program updates with clarity and data-driven recommendations.
Engage with external partners and business units as required to support customer sample delivery and qualification requirements.
Oversee execution of NPI lots, data collection, process characterization, and yield ramp activities
Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action / preventive action (CAPA) for NPI-related excursions and quality issues.
Ensure MRDA (Metro Real-time Defect Analysis) readiness, ADC setup/validation, sampling strategy, and inspection methodologies are established ahead of each phase gate.
Oversee POS (Process Objective Specification), VMP (Variability Monitoring Program), and DMP (Defectivity Monitor Program) deployment and execution.
Lead, develop, and coach a team of engineers and managers across multiple disciplines within the PDE, Advance Technology NPI organization.
Set clear goals, manage performance, and foster a high-performance, inclusive culture aligned with Micron's core values.
Drive succession planning, talent pipeline development, and capability-building programs for the team.
Manage organizational structure, staffing levels, and resource allocation to meet business demands.
Conduct regular 1-on-1s, team meetings, and performance reviews to ensure accountability and continuous development.
Establish and monitor NPI KPIs including MLY (Mechanical Line Yield), Process Cpk, Lot Disposition TAT, Phase Gate exit rates, and Defect Pareto closure.
Drive Continuous Improvement Programs (CIPs) to achieve yield targets, reduce scrap, and improve process capability across NPI runs.
Champion best-known method (BKM) documentation and cross-site knowledge sharing.
Ensure safety, regulatory, and ethical compliance across all team activities in accordance with Micron policies.
Integrate AI-assisted tools and data analytics into NPI workflows to improve decision-making speed, yield prediction, and operational efficiency.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and scaling AI-enabled enhancements within the PDE Advance Packaging NPI scope.
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
10+ years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, with a strong background in process engineering, NPI, or technology development.
5+ years in a people leadership role (Manager or Director), with demonstrated success managing multi-functional engineering teams.
Deep understanding of backend/assembly semiconductor processes and NPI phase gate frameworks.
Proven track record of delivering NPI milestones on time in a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Python, or equivalent).
Experience with advanced packaging technologies (e.g., HBM, 3D stacking, wafer-on-wafer).
Experience working across global, cross-functional teams spanning multiple geographies.
Ability to influence and present to senior executives and cross-functional leaders.
