The role sits at the intersection of technology, product, and commercial strategy, acting as a critical bridge between external customers and internal product teams.
Role Summary
This position serves as the technical backbone of the international commercial team, responsible for evaluating market fit, shaping technical solutions, and influencing product evolution based on real market requirements.
The role operates across three key areas:
- Customer Engagement (40%)
- Product & Market Translation (40%)
- Market Intelligence (20%)
Key Responsibilities
1. Customer-Facing (Technical Pre-Sales & Engagement)
- Lead technical discovery discussions with utilities, engineering teams, and procurement stakeholders
- Understand requirements across architecture, communication protocols, data flows, and regulatory constraints
- Translate complex technical capabilities into compelling value propositions for customers
- Own the technical pre-sales lifecycle including workshops, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept initiatives
- Support technical responses to RFPs and tenders
- Engage with cybersecurity and IT stakeholders on system security requirements
- Build trust and credibility with senior technical stakeholders
- Represent the organisation at industry forums, working groups, and technical events
2. Product-Facing (Market-to-Product Translation)
- Act as the key interface between international markets and product teams
- Capture and translate market-specific requirements into structured inputs for product development
- Develop clear and actionable Market Requirements Documents (MRDs)
- Identify certification, regulatory, and technical requirements across different geographies
- Highlight product gaps and inform prioritisation for enhancements
- Support commercial decision-making based on technical feasibility
3. Market Intelligence & Strategy
- Track emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and industry trends
- Monitor competitor developments and evolving customer needs
- Maintain a working understanding of market opportunity across regions
- Provide ongoing insights into shifts in procurement models, funding structures, and market dynamics
Technical Context
Candidates should have strong familiarity (or the ability to quickly build expertise) in areas such as:
- Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) standards and data protocols
- Communication technologies (e.g., RF mesh, cellular, PLC)
- Certification and regulatory frameworks across multiple regions
- Cybersecurity in critical infrastructure environments
- Edge computing and intelligent device ecosystems
- Integration with enterprise systems and data platforms
- Distributed energy environments (e.g., renewables, storage, grid modernisation)
What We Are Looking For
Essential
- 8–12 years of experience in smart metering, energy technology, or related infrastructure domains
- Strong technical understanding of system architecture, communications, and data frameworks
- Experience engaging with utilities, engineering teams, or technical buyers
- Ability to run technical discovery conversations and propose viable solutions
- Experience translating technical requirements into structured documentation
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable working across geographies and cultures
- Based in Singapore or open to relocation
Highly Desirable
- Experience with certification or regulatory approval processes
- Exposure to cybersecurity frameworks within critical infrastructure
- Familiarity with edge computing or embedded systems
- Experience with large-scale infrastructure or energy projects
- Understanding of development-financed or regulated procurement environments
