Job Description

Tanglin Trust School is looking to appoint a Director of Gymnastics who will be responsible for designing, managing, leading and implementing a world-class school gymnastics programme that supports both the development and performance of all Tanglin gymnasts.

The Director of Gymnastics will provide strategic leadership of the gymnastics pathway, ensuring Tanglin students learn, train and compete in an environment that enables all to achieve their personal best. The Director of Gymnastics will have a direct role in the programming, training periodisation and delivery, with a view to promoting national and international success.

Key policies, programmes and relationships will need to be built with management, coaches, parents, students and other stakeholders including relevant external organisations to ensure there is collaboration, communication and mutual support for raising the performance and profile of the Tanglin gymnastics programme to a national and international level.

The role reports to the Director of Sport.
This role is on a 40-day annual leave type.

Key Responsibilities

1. Programme Development

  • Develop and promote all gymnastics programmes to a high standard, ensuring the pathway is efficiently run and financially sustainable.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a strategic plan for growth and performance of the competitive programme.
  • Support Head Coaches to develop, implement and monitor a strategic plan for the growth and performance of the development programme.
  • Coordinate a programme of performance education, liaising with specialist practitioners to ensure that gymnasts understand the role and application of sport science in fulfilling their potential.
  • Tailor the competitive framework to support and challenge all competitive gymnasts, leading trips to overseas competition when required.
  • Develop, promote and deliver camps and clinics which provide extended training and learning opportunities.
  • Work alongside other sports leaders to develop cross training opportunities and programs for athlete development across sports.

2. Coaching

  • Ensure the highest quality of coaching is provided to all Tanglin gymnasts through adherence to professional development and through mentorship of the Assistant Director of Gymnastics, Head Coaches and other coaches.
  • Deliver high-quality progressive coaching sessions which support, challenge and stretch all gymnasts.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Gymnastics and Head Coaches to ensure that individual development plans are in place for high performing gymnasts, and that these plans reflect seasonal and long-term goals.
  • Give regular feedback to parents and athletes throughout the year on individual progress.
  • Maintain effective communication channels with all relevant staff, parents and students.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants, other coaches and yourself within sessions, reporting any accidents and incidents in accordance with the school's procedures and codes of practice.

3. Programme Management

  • Manage and coordinate the Assistant Director of Gymnastics, Head Coaches, and Programme Administrator.
  • Manage the budget and forecast financial income and costs for all programmes.
  • Operate according to the policies, procedures, and codes of practice relevant to the role.
  • Understand and implement the school safeguarding and child protection policies, liaising with the DSLs across the school when appropriate.
  • Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • To comply with any reasonable requests made by the Director of Sport and the Senior Management Team.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience within a gymnastics leadership role, including the management of a gymnastics coaching team.
  • Experience of WAG & MAG programmes and extensive experience and expertise in the sport of Artistic Gymnastics.
  • Preferred FIG 2/3 or equivalent certificate in coaching performance gymnastics.
  • Minimum 5 years of successful coaching experience across, including a detailed understanding of the performance needs of developing and aspiring gymnasts.
  • Experience in developing training programmes for gymnastics across multiple ability levels.
  • Experience in judging and officiating gymnastics competitions preferred.
