Director, Electrical Engineering (Engineering Consulting Service, US MNC)
Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Delivery
- Lead and execute the full design lifecycle for electrical building services including Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) power distribution systems, main switchboards, sub-distribution boards, emergency power systems (standby generators, UPS), lighting and lighting controls, earthing and lightning protection, and fire alarm and emergency lighting systems — from schematic design through to construction documentation and construction administration.
- Prepare, review, and take accountability for electrical load calculations, short circuit and coordination studies, cable sizing schedules, design reports, technical specifications, and detailed drawings in accordance with project requirements and quality standards.
- Sign and stamp electrical engineering drawings and documents as a Qualified Person (QP) / registered Professional Engineer (Electrical) under the Professional Engineers Board (PEB), Singapore, taking full professional responsibility for submissions.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable Singapore regulations and standards including the Singapore Standard SS 638 (Code of Practice for Electrical Installations), EMA requirements, SCDF fire alarm and emergency lighting requirements, and relevant BCA and SP Group supply connection requirements.
- Lead and manage authority submissions and licence applications to relevant Singapore statutory bodies including EMA, BCA, SCDF, and SP Group, including LV/HV turn-on applications and associated documentation.
- Conduct design reviews, peer checks, and quality assurance of electrical engineering deliverables produced by the project team.
- Oversee coordination of electrical services with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, structural, architectural) and manage clash resolution in BIM and on site.
- Expertise in short-circuit analysis, coordination studies, and arc flash assessments
- Project Management & Client Coordination
- Manage multiple concurrent projects from inception to completion, ensuring deliverables are on time, within scope, and of the required technical standard.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, architects, main contractors, and specialist sub-contractors on electrical engineering matters.
- Attend and lead project meetings, site inspections, and design coordination meetings across the project lifecycle.
- Review and comment on shop drawings, as-built drawings, method statements, and contractor submissions relating to electrical services.
- Support the preparation of tender documents, fee proposals, and scope-of-work definitions for electrical engineering services.
Practice Development
- Contribute to building Syska Singapore's electrical engineering capability — including developing internal standards, QA/QC processes, and design guidelines aligned with Singapore's regulatory and market context.
- Mentor and support engineers within the team as the Singapore office grows.
- Collaborate with Syska's global offices to leverage cross-office expertise, particularly in areas of Smart Buildings, ICT integration, and mission-critical electrical design.
- Keep abreast of developments in Singapore's building services industry, including regulatory changes, emerging technologies, and sustainability best practices relevant to electrical systems.
Qualifications & Experience
The following are required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering from a recognised institution.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (Electrical) with the Professional Engineers Board (PEB), Singapore — active registration required at the point of hire.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive post-graduate experience in electrical building services engineering within a consulting engineering environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in the design of LV and HV power distribution systems, emergency and standby power, lighting systems, earthing and lightning protection, and fire alarm and emergency lighting systems for medium to large-scale building projects. Experience with Critical Facilities, Healthcare, Aviation, and Commercial electrical design — including power redundancy configurations, UPS systems, generator paralleling, and Tier classification requirements — is required given Syska's position as a global leader in critical facilities engineering.
- Proven experience leading electrical engineering submissions and licence applications to Singapore statutory authorities (EMA, BCA, SCDF, SP Group) as a Qualified Person or supporting QP, including HV and LV turn-on documentation.
- Track record of managing and delivering electrical engineering design across multiple concurrent building projects in a consultancy setting.
- Experience working on projects in the Southeast Asia region, with working familiarity of local regulatory frameworks and construction practices in at least one SEA jurisdiction beyond Singapore.
- Proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD; working knowledge of electrical system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, DIALux, or equivalent).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and present effectively to clients and stakeholders.
- The following would be advantageous:
- Postgraduate qualification (MEng or MSc) in Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
- Professional membership with CIBSE, IET, or the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES).
- Experience with Green Mark (BCA), LEED, or WELL sustainability assessments as they relate to electrical systems and energy performance.
- Familiarity with IDD (Integrated Digital Delivery) workflows and BIM Execution Plans in a Singapore project context.
- Exposure to Uptime Institute Tier standards or TIA-942 as applied to data centre design and engineering.
- Experience in Critical Facilities, Healthcare, Aviation, and Commercial, as well as in mission-critical or data centre electrical design.
