Job Description

We seek a seasoned, outstanding individual to join as its Director of Climate and play a vital role in translating climate knowledge into actionable strategies that empower philanthropists to engage, advocate for and give to climate solutions. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director will manage the sourcing of trusted, high-impact climate solutions that are regionally and locally grounded, transformative and scalable, across mitigation, adaptation and resilience. Sensitive to the varied contexts and cultures in Asia, the Director will define opportunities for intersectional engagement across areas such as health, gender, poverty and technology.

Responsibilities

The Director/Associate Director of Climate will play a critical role in designing and elevating climate strategies and communications to enable giving at speed and scale.

  • Source and diligence climate solutions from across the complex philanthropic and civil society sectors in Asia. These would be trusted, high-impact solutions that are regionally and locally grounded, transformative and scalable.
  • Operate as an objective broker for the climate field to convey Asia-relevant climate strategies and viable solutions through the paces of a credible diligence framework.
  • Navigate and centre high-impact climate solutions across mitigation, adaptation and resilience and ensure that the Advisory employs a holistic approach to climate impact in its portfolio curation.
  • Translate complex climate knowledge into accessible concepts and avenues for action.
  • Define opportunities for intersectional engagement with climate in areas such as health, gender, poverty, technology within the Asian development context.
  • Identify and address gaps in networks, finding new partnerships and coalitions across geographies and sectors that meet the Advisory's needs for diverse validation and expertise, as well as to advance efforts to curate big ideas within the field. Promote and lead transparent engagements rooted in reciprocal information and knowledge sharing.
  • Manage relationships across diverse stakeholders, including philanthropic and civil society organisations, policymakers, researchers, and private sector. Adapt engagement to different audiences, ensuring partnerships are mutually beneficial and strategically aligned with the Advisory's mission.
  • Leverage own and advisory's climate networks and continually grow, evolve, and maintain trust-based partnerships and networks to the Asian climate sector.
  • Manage and train members of the Advisory's Climate team
  • The Director/Associate Director of Climate will report to the Chief Executive Officer and will also work closely with the Director of Philanthropy.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum 15-20 years of experience and track record in climate programmes in the international or regional development setting, with a focus on Asia
  • Post-graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Proficient in the climate domain having worked with philanthropic partners across sectors and geographies in Asia, and a grounding in how local and regional organisations deliver on climate programmes, solutions and portfolios.
  • Climate strategist with an objective approach to sourcing and evaluating climate strategies and solutions from the sector in order to work effectively across a wide spectrum of networks, partnerships, and funder groups.
  • Articulate and demonstrate gravitas in elevating promising and impactful solutions, with the ability to rationalise climate impact in a concise and effective manner.
  • Tactical engagement with a background operating in regional climate networks and an ability to activate or tap into Asia-based experts and movement leaders from across the climate and environmental justice communities.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to translate complex climate issues and strategies into clear, compelling narratives for philanthropists-bridging technical insights and on-the-ground needs with strategic storytelling to inspire and drive action.
  • Experience representing organisation-wide vision/strategy in international or regional (in Asia), through speaking engagements, advisory roles, or other methods
  • Proven ability to manage multi-stakeholder partnerships with experience in navigating differing priorities with integrity and a collaborative approach
