Role Overview
As the Director and Distinguished Engineer, you will be the primary architect and visionary for our enterprise-wide engineering platform. This is a high-impact player-coach leadership role designed for a technical authority who can bridge the gap between long-term organizational strategy and deep-seated engineering excellence. You will lead the software and digital engineering organization while remaining a hands-on expert capable of navigating complex cloud-native stacks, distributed systems, and large-scale data integrations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Strategy & Architecture
- Visionary Roadmap: Define the long-term technical evolution of the core engineering platform, transitioning from legacy siloes to a unified, modern infrastructure.
- Architectural Governance: Serve as the final authority on major architectural decisions, including hybrid-cloud strategies, Kubernetes-at-scale, and general digital system interoperability.
- Hands-on Excellence: Lead by example by contributing to core system components, performing deep-dive code reviews, and resolving the most complex technical bottlenecks.
- Innovation: Incubate emerging technologiessuch as agentic AI frameworks, Digital Twins, and advanced IT/IoT protocolsinto the production ecosystem.
2. Engineering Leadership & Management
- Platform-as-a-Product: Shift the engineering culture to treat the internal platform as a product, focusing on Developer Experience (DX) to accelerate high-velocity delivery across the organization.
- Team Mentorship: Build a high-performing engineering culture. Directly mentor Software and Platform Engineers, fostering a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) mindset and an automation-first approach.
- Strategic Alignment: Partner with cross-functional business leaders and external partners to ensure the platform scales in alignment with global organizational goals.
- Operational Excellence: Own the Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for digital platforms, ensuring high availability and resilience for critical systems.
Technical Requirements
- Distributed Systems: Expert-level knowledge of building and scaling distributed architectures, microservices, and event-driven systems.
- Cloud Native: Deep proficiency in Kubernetes, Service Mesh, and managing multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments.
- Data & AI: Experience with data rationalization at scale and integrating AI-driven automation into production workflows.
- Security & Resilience: Strong grasp of Zero Trust architecture and securing critical infrastructure (including IT/OT integration where applicable).
Experience & Qualifications
- 15+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a significant technical leadership role (e.g., Principal Engineer or Engineering Manager/Director, Distinguished Engineer).
- Proven Track Record: You have successfully built or transformed a platform from the ground up that supports large-scale user bases or critical infrastructure.
- Influence: Recognized thought leader in platform engineering with a history of influencing technical direction across an entire enterprise.
- Education: Relevant qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
