Key Responsibilities
(a) Physiological Science & Assessment Design
. Design physiological assessment protocols and scoring frameworks for self-administered, browser-based, and wearable-enabled use, adapting established lab methods for a digital platform.
. Define the physiological indices, normative ranges, and interpretation logic behind the platform's readiness scores (e.g., cardiorespiratory fitness, recovery capacity, movement quality).
. Maintain the peer-reviewed evidence base for each metric, so claims made to clients and partner agencies are scientifically defensible.
. Evaluate wearables, sensors, and consumer-grade measurement devices (e.g., heart-rate variability monitors, activity trackers) for integration into the platform.
(b) Bridging Physiology & Engineering
. Act as the physiology SME to the software team, translating exercise-science requirements into technical specifications, data schemas, and algorithm logic that developers can build against.
. Work with developers and data scientists to validate physiological scoring algorithms - accuracy, reliability, and edge cases - and support QA of physiology features before release.
. Contribute physiology requirements and user stories to the product roadmap, prioritising by scientific value and engineering feasibility.
(c) Validation, Research & Continuous Improvement
. Run validation studies benchmarking platform-derived measures against gold-standard laboratory equipment and protocols.
. Analyse platform data in Python, or SPSS to monitor measurement validity, detect drift, and recommend recalibration.
. Track emerging research in exercise physiology, sports science, and workforce health to identify new metrics for the roadmap.
(d) Client Services & Stakeholder Engagement
. Provide hands-on physiological profiling and testing services (e.g., VO₂max) to support assessment.
. Provide scientific input for client-facing materials, demos, and reports, explaining the physiological basis of our assessments to client management.
. Support sales and customer success on questions of methodology, accuracy, and evidence base.
Requirement:
. Master's degree in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology, or a related field (a life-science background such as biology or biomechanics is an asset).
. At least 3 years conducting exercise and performance testing in an academic, clinical, or high-performance setting.
. Solid grounding in physiological assessment methods (e.g., cardiorespiratory fitness, biomechanics, recovery), and the ability to translate that science into requirements a non-specialist can act on.
. Proficiency in data analysis using Python, or SPSS.
. Comfortable in a cross-functional team of developers, product managers, and data scientists, with sound judgement on data quality, safety, and scientific rigour.
