Roles & Responsibilities

Overview of the Role:

As a Project Designer, you are responsible for overseeing the design process across all project stages-from concept development through to delivery and completion-in alignment with the project's program, budget, and strategic objectives.

You will work collaboratively with the Design Team to jointly or independently lead projects, developing design strategies, identifying challenges and opportunities, and managing key milestones including schedules, costs, and resourcing.

The role involves active participation in project management to ensure timely, on-budget delivery that meets client expectations.

You will also engage with client stakeholders, consultants, suppliers, and other external partners to facilitate effective collaboration and successful project outcomes.

Detailed Roles & Responsibilities:

General Interior Design Tasks

1. Support the Design Team to interpret client needs and translate them into design concepts aligned with business goals, brand identity, and functional requirements.

2. Support the development of design concepts, space planning, and material selection, including creation of mood boards and design presentations.

3. Conduct site analysis to assess spatial conditions, user requirements, and functional needs.

4. Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and construction drawing packages in collaboration with the Technical and QS teams.

5. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of materials, finishes, FF&E, and sustainable design practices.

Project Execution

1. Lead and manage the end-to-end design execution process, ensuring that the design is implemented according to project schedule, budget, and intent. Coordinate closely with internal design teams, independent project managers, QS, consultants, engineers, suppliers, and contractors to align workstreams and manage timelines.

2. Communicate and uphold design strategy, priorities, and objectives to the project execution team, ensuring clarity on design intent and implications during construction.

3. Monitor, review, and where required, develop technical documentation including detailed drawings, specifications, and schedules to support accurate project execution.
4.Prepare and manage project budgets, where required. Track project costs and ensure alignment with the approved budget, liaising with the independent or external Quantity Surveyor or Project Manager, where applicable.

5. Manage team resources and maintain quality performance throughout all stages of the project-from concept through to site execution.
Attend and actively contribute to client and consultant meetings, addressing design issues, construction challenges, and recommending solutions to ensure timely and successful project delivery.

6. Provide input on corrective actions related to design scope, timelines, or cost impacts as needed.

7. Participate in post-design reviews to capture learnings and opportunities for process improvement.
Where required, provide support to regional design teams on cross-country or collaborative projects, promoting design consistency and operational alignment.

Proposals & Pitching

Assist in developing design proposals, pitch presentations, and RFP submissions, including conceptual design direction, preliminary budget estimates, and schedule planning.

Design Quality & Continuous Improvement

1. Collaborate with the Design & Management teams to enhance design quality and elevate the client experience.

2. Ensure that design outcomes align with Paper space's standards and strategic vision, while creating value for the client's business roadmap.

3. Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve workflow, design innovation, and client engagement practices.

4. Strengthen client relationships by delivering consistent, thoughtful, and strategically aligned design solutions.
