Responsibilities:
- To drive accounting, tax and internal control initiatives for affiliated companies in the Asia and Oceania region as Head of the RHQ accounting and tax function within the Sumitomo Corporation Group's Global function and be responsible for the business process re-engineering (BPR) and digital transformation (DX) of accounting processes. The role requires frequent on-site visits to group companies in the region.
- To analyse new investment, new trade business, or divestment projects for the Sumitomo Corporation Group from the perspectives of financial accounting (i.e. IFRS and local stats), management accounting (using SAP and DIVA system), international tax (e.g. from capital gain tax, transfer pricing, tax treaty application, stamp duty and GMT perspective), Japanese tax (e.g. J-CFC, tax deferred reorganization, etc.) and internal control (e.g. J-SOX) proposing optimal structures whilst also handling the administrative aspects such as to carry out post-merger integration (PMI) for acquired companies.
- To supervise and manage tax matters, including tax advice, responses to tax audits and litigation, transfer pricing, and the Global Minimum Tax (IIR and DMTT), across the Asia and Oceania region as tax principal of the region, which involves over 100 group companies in approximately 20 countries.
- To manage tax compliance for the Singapore operating company (including the recognition of tax provisions and the filing of tax returns).
- To improve accounting and tax governance and capabilities in the region by becoming a hub in the region connecting the Japanese head office and group companies and training diverse groups of local accounting and tax members in the region.
- To maintain relationship with external parties (Auditors, Tax consultant and relevant authorities) and solve the disputes between Group co. and them.
Requirements:
- At least a Bachelor's degree from a recognized University, with more than 20 years of experience in tax and accounting area, and more than 5 years managerial experience.
- To facilitate the regional accounting and tax activities, good communication and leadership experience as a manager with more than 10 staffs over 5 years.
- Comprehensive and deep understanding of accounting standards (IFRS etc.), not only for basic knowledge and practical manner but also for comprehensive practice-based knowledge in specific area of accounting e.g. infrastructure (e.g. IFRIC12) , mining operation, leases, financial instruments, business combination and foreign currency exchange (including hedge accounting), etc.
- Comprehensive and deep understanding of the taxation in Japan, including the detailed knowledge and experience of CFC rule, corporate reorganization, group taxation, taxation relating to outbound investment, and the dealing with tax audit.
- Comprehensive and deep understanding of general taxation such as GST/VAT relating to trading business, stamp duty, and international taxation such as transfer pricing, tax treaties, PE, Global Minimum Tax and local taxation in Asia and Oceania countries. Experience in concluding APA (Advance Pricing Agreement) between Japan and other Asian country is strongly desirable.
- Deep understanding of the Japanese Trading House business model, such as trading (export and import) of goods (including GST/VAT knowledge on trading) and services and investment in diversified business areas.
- Experience in participating PMI activities for Tax, Accounting, internal control and Business Operation is required. Also experience using SAP and DIVA accounting system is desirable.
