Position: Deputy General Manager

The Deputy General Manager establishes the organisation's business strategies and develops plans to execute them. The role is responsible for tracking market developments and trends to inform strategic decision-making and ensure the organisation remains current with the sector's evolving landscape. The position leads the organisation's business development efforts to secure more projects and drive business growth, and also drives the adoption of innovation and new technologies to continuously improve workforce productivity and efficiency.

The work involves strategic goal-setting, business development, and business leadership. Much of the time in this role is spent on external meetings with potential clients for business development. The role also develops strategies and plans, and reviews business and operational performance.

The Deputy General Manager is a strategic thinker and business planner. The role requires strong leadership to guide the organisation and management in executing business plans, as well as effective communication skills to influence external stakeholders.

Job Description

  • Strategizes Business Growth: Establishes and executes business strategies aligned with market developments and trends to ensure the company remains at the forefront of the landscape sector.
  • Drives Business Development: Leads aggressive business development efforts, actively securing new projects and fostering client relationships to expand the company's market share and revenue significantly. Spends substantial time in external meetings with potential clients.
  • Champions Innovation & Efficiency: Spearheads the adoption of innovative technologies to continuously enhance workforce productivity and operational efficiency, thereby increasing profit margins.
  • Provides Strategic Leadership: Offers decisive leadership, guiding both the organisation and management team in the successful execution of business plans and achievement of performance targets.
  • Monitors Performance: Regularly reviews business and operational performance against strategic goals, makingdata-driven decisions to optimise outcomes.
  • Influences Stakeholders: Effectively communicates and influences external stakeholders to build strong partnerships and advance business objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in the landscape, construction, or related sector.
  • Proven track record in Business development and revenue growth, strategic planning and execution.
  • Experience in client-facing roles with strong exposure to external stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and senior management.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement long-term business strategies.
  • Experience in driving digital transformation or technology adoption.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong industry network is a plus.
