The Deputy Director - Human Resources (HR) Policy role offers the opportunity to lead policy development, governance, and communication across a research-focused organisation. This position plays a key role in ensuring HR policies are not only well-structured, but also clearly understood by staff through effective engagement and change communication.
Responsibilities
- Lead the review of HR policies across functions, considering Public Service directives, relevant legislation, industry practice, and organisational impact
- Engage stakeholders and staff directly to assess proposed policy changes and gather feedback
- Partner with HR teams to implement new and updated policies
- Track implementation effectiveness and recommend refinements to policies, communications, and rollout approaches
- Evaluate requests for policy exceptions, balancing business impact against potential effects on related policies
- Own the communications and change management plan for policy rollouts
- Maintain consistent messaging across circulars, eDMs, and staff engagement sessions
Requirements
- 8 to 10 years of experience in HR, with strong depth in policy, communications, or a closely related area
- Track record of leading organisation-wide communications, particularly in translating complex policy content into clear and accessible messages
- Strong writing and speaking skills, with the ability to brief senior leaders and deliver staff-wide communications effectively
- Public Service experience or experience in a large, complex organisation will be an advantage
