Job Brief
The Deputy Dean of the Chandler Academy of Governance plays a key leadership role in advancing the Academy's mission to deliver high-quality, practice-oriented governance training for public sector leaders. The Deputy Dean will provide critical support to the Dean in setting the vision and priorities of the Academy, ensure effective execution of the Academy's training offerings, and represent the Academy in both internal and external forums as needed.
The Deputy Dean will work closely with a high-performing team and collaborate with experts, partners, and stakeholders across the Chandler Governance Group (CGG). The Deputy Dean will help ensure the Academy is both responsive to the evolving needs of governments and positioned for long-term sustainability and impact.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Support to Dean
- Support the Dean in the articulation and implementation of the Academy's strategic vision, including business planning, institutional development, and sustainability goals. This will include supporting the Dean in the planning and refinement of the Academy's curriculum roadmap and online learning strategy, including the design, scaling, and continuous improvement of digital training offerings to extend the Academy's reach and impact.
- Deputise for the Dean when necessary, including at internal leadership meetings, with partners and donors, and in key representational duties.
- Act as a sounding board and advisor to the Dean on the Academy's development plans, operational effectiveness, and workplace culture.
Programme Oversight and Delivery
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality training programmes globally, ensuring operational excellence and strong participant experience.
- Work with internal teams and subject matter experts to curate high-impact training programmes across a range of governance themes.
- Ensure training content is relevant, practitioner-oriented, and of consistently high quality across both in-person and online modalities.
- Contribute to scoping, designing and executing projects to build capabilities and enhance effectiveness of National Schools of Government (e.g. strategic planning and review, architecting organisational structure and development of internal capabilities)
- Support the Dean in fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performance work environment across the Programmes and Curriculum teams.
- Maintain strong working relationships with trainers, faculty members, and other contributors to the Academy's learning ecosystem.
Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
- Represent the Academy in engagements with key stakeholders including partner governments, donors and other collaboration partners.
- Support the Dean in relationship-building, partner management, and strategic outreach efforts to grow the Academy's footprint.
Thought Leadership
- Actively contribute to the Academy's thought leadership by moderating programmes, facilitating dialogues, and participating in relevant conferences or forums.
- Shape the Academy's intellectual positioning by integrating practitioner insights and public sector trends into training offerings.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in public policy, public administration, education or international development, including leadership responsibilities.
- Experience in designing, managing, and delivering training programmes for public sector audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, stakeholder engagement, and people management.
- Strong grounding in adult learning principles, training evaluation approaches, and curriculum design frameworks, with the ability to guide curriculum direction and assess instructional effectiveness.
- Knowledge of public sector learning needs and reform trends across different country contexts, enabling the contextualisation and adaptation of training offerings for diverse audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills confident in public speaking and moderation roles.
- Strong project management capabilities and attention to detail.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- A strong commitment to the values of public service and good governance.
- Advanced degree in public policy, public administration, education, or a related fieldpreferred.
- The role involves regular travel candidates must be comfortable and willing to travel as required.
