Job Profile – Your Tasks
Technical Demurrage & Laytime Calculations
- Performing laytime calculations within time-bars for all marine shipments globally on gas and liquids cargoes, following up on all claims to earliest resolution.
- Analyze charter-parties and voyage documents, clarify events with agents, brokers, owners, suppliers and receivers in order to accurately calculate demurrages for vessel shipments company-wide.
- Actively prioritize claims, ensuring timely submissions, negotiations and recoveries.
- Reviewing sale/purchase contracts and charter-parties to highlight demurrage risks.
Demurrage Management
- Own and manage the company's demurrage portfolio from claim inception through negotiation, invoicing and settlement.
- Liaise with traders and chartering on commercial strategy and settlement of claims.
- Liaise with finance/contract admin on invoicing and overview of demurrage accounts.
- Develop relationships with external counterparties to make resolution of calculations a smooth process.
- Collate relevant correspondences for claims that need to be turned over for legal recovery.
Systems, Reporting & Business Support
- Own and drive use of Voyager Portal as the primary calculation and demurrage management tool to keep pace with a large claims workload.
- Leverage the use of Voyager Portal to maintain complete visibility of outstanding claims, timebars, exposures, recoveries and liabilities across trades, including reporting and providing analysis on claims completed/in progress.
- Record demurrage/claims data and ensure compliance with electronic filing processes including the company's internal ERM system.
- Produce weekly/ad hoc reports and maintain plus distribute demurrage metrics.
- Drive continuous improvements in reporting, workflows, automation and internal demurrage processes.
Reporting to Global Head of Chartering based in Singapore.
Characteristics:
- Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience within chemicals/liquids (gas experience is a plus) either with a charterer, shipbroker or a shipowner, and the candidate must currently be employed in a similar capacity.
- Demonstrated experience managing a significant portfolio of demurrage claims rather than solely preparing laytime calculations.
- Advanced knowledge of shipping practice and laytime, including pro-rata calculation in depth. Shipping education preferred.
- Excellent understanding of charter-parties and Incoterms.
- Hands-on experience using Voyager Portal or a similar AI-enabled demurrage claims system is highly desirable.
- Dynamic, pro-active and commercially minded. Comfortable communicating with traders, charterers, owners, brokers, agents and finance teams worldwide.
- Curious about technology and enthusiastic about using AI-enabled systems to improve productivity, workflow and reporting.
- Able to work independently while coordinating with numerous internal and external stakeholders across different timezones in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to collaborate effectively with a global team.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written) – company language is English. Knowledge of other languages is an advantage.
