We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage and maintain our on-premises and cloud database systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring database performance, security, availability, and integrity whilst supporting application development and business operations through effective data management.
Key Responsibilities
Database Management and Maintenance
- Install, configure, and maintain database management systems including MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL databases
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks including backups, indexing, and performance tuning
- Monitor database performance and implement optimisation strategies to ensure efficient query execution and resource utilisation
Security and Access Control
- Implement and maintain database security policies including user access controls, authentication, and authorisation mechanisms
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to protect sensitive data
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and organisational security standards
Backup and Recovery Operations
- Design and implement comprehensive backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data protection and business continuity
- Test recovery procedures regularly and maintain documentation of recovery processes
- Coordinate with infrastructure teams to ensure backup systems are properly maintained and monitored
Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting
- Monitor database performance metrics and identify potential issues before they impact operations
- Troubleshoot database-related problems and work with development teams to optimise application queries
- Implement performance improvements through index management, query optimisation, and resource allocation
Required Qualifications
- Polytechnic diploma and/or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- At least 2 years equivalent practical experience in database administration
- Hands-on experience in at least two major database platforms for Singapore Government IT systems on-prem and on Government Commercial Cloud (GCC)
- Strong knowledge of SQL and database design principles including normalisation and data modelling
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in database backup and recovery procedures with experience using enterprise backup solutions
- Understanding of database replication, clustering, and high availability configurations
- Experience with database monitoring tools and performance tuning techniques
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or shell scripting for automation tasks

- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with development teams and business stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple database environments simultaneously
- Understanding of change management processes and documentation practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with on-premises database and cloud-based database services such as Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and database deployment automation
- Relevant database certifications from vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle, or AWS
