Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled database engineer with strong hands-on experience in MongoDB and TimescaleDB to support the design, development, optimization, and maintenance of scalable database platforms. The role focuses on managing modern data systems that handle both transactional and time-series workloads, ensuring high performance, reliability, and availability. The Database Engineer will work closely with application, cloud, and data engineering teams to build secure, resilient, and performance‑optimized data solutions aligned with business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain MongoDB and TimescaleDB databases.
- Manage MongoDB environments, including standalone, replica sets, and sharded clusters.
- Design and maintain scalable data models to support high‑volume transactional workloads.
- Build and manage time‑series databases using TimescaleDB and PostgreSQL for analytics and monitoring.
- Monitor database performance and availability, ensuring high reliability and uptime.
- Optimize queries, indexes, and schema designs for better performance.
- Perform and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery activities.
- Implement security controls such as authentication, authorization, and encryption.
- Support database migrations, upgrades, and application deployments.
- Automate routine DBA tasks and maintain database documentation and procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with MongoDB, including schema design, aggregation pipelines, indexing, and administration.
- Good understanding of MongoDB architecture, including replica sets and sharded clusters.
- Experience with TimescaleDB, including hypertables, compression, retention policies, and continuous aggregates.
- Solid knowledge of PostgreSQL with experience in SQL query optimization and performance tuning.
- Experience optimizing database performance through monitoring and tuning.
- Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies and tools.
- Experience integrating databases with backend services and APIs.
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments.
Preferred / Value-Added Experience
- Experience with MongoDB Atlas or Ops Manager
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Scripting knowledge (Shell, Python)
- Experience with time-series use cases such as IoT, telemetry, or monitoring platforms.
- Understanding of high-scale or distributed database architectures.
- Relevant certifications in databases or cloud platforms.
Experience & Education
- 4-6 years of database administration experience
- MongoDB certification is an added advantage
