Job Description
- Manage PostgreSQL clusters endtoend: deployment, configuration, patching, maintenance, and automation.
- Ensure highvolume data ingestion (100-250GB/day) and reliable ETL/streaming workflows.
- Implement robust backup, recovery, and disasterrecovery workflows (pgBackRest, WALG, PITR, failover tests).
- Maintain performance and health through VACUUM operations, autovacuum tuning, bloat cleanup, and resource optimization (I/O, memory, WAL).
- Optimize SQL and database architecture, support developers, and design partitioning and indexing strategies.
- Handle large datasets (1TB-2TB+) with pruning, compression, archival, and tiered storage automation.
- Configure replication, PgBouncer connection pooling, HA setups, and continuous monitoring via Grafana/Prometheus.
- Respond to incidents, conduct RCAs, and implement preventive improvements.
- Integrate database provisioning and migration workflows into CI/CD using Ansible, Terraform, Helm, Flyway/Liquibase.
- Enforce strong security practices, logging, auditing, and compliance controls.
The Successful Applicant
- Extensive handson experience working with PostgreSQL as the primary database.
- Background in both SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
- Strong proficiency in query optimization, indexing techniques, partitioning methods (timebased, range, list), MVCC, WAL mechanisms, replication and failover processes, PITR, backup strategies, and logging
- Solid Linux system administration and shell scripting capabilities.
- Experience handling highvolume data ingestion (around 250GB/day) and managing longterm rolling datasets.
- Familiarity with cloudhosted PostgreSQL services such as AWS RDS/Aurora and Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
- Practical experience with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and SigNoz.
