Overview
We are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to lead the management, optimisation, and security of our database platforms across on-premise and cloud environments. This role requires a hands-on expert who can drive performance, reliability, and automation while supporting mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Ownership & Operations
- Own end-to-end database operations across multiple platforms and environments
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available database solutions
- Manage cloud-based database infrastructure with a focus on performance and cost efficiency
Performance Engineering
- Lead performance tuning, query optimisation, and indexing strategies
- Diagnose and resolve complex performance bottlenecks across relational and NoSQL systems
- Proactively monitor and enhance system throughput and stability
Data Reliability & Resilience
- Establish robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
- Define and enforce data lifecycle policies (retention, archival, deletion)
- Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and data integrity
Security & Governance
- Implement strong database security, access controls, and compliance frameworks
- Support audit, governance, and regulatory requirements
- Partner with cross-functional teams to uphold data security best practices
Automation & Modernisation
- Drive automation of database operations using scripting and tools
- Improve deployment, monitoring, and maintenance processes
- Contribute to modern data platform initiatives (cloud, DevOps, infrastructure-as-code)
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 5-8+ years of experience in database administration across diverse environments
- Strong expertise in relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Experience with cloud platforms and object storage (e.g., AWS S3 or equivalent)
- Knowledge of graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) is a plus
- Strong background in performance tuning, indexing, and query optimisation
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to operate in complex environments
