Data Governance Lead

What the day will look like

Domain Expertise and Strategy Alignment:

  • Leverage deep knowledge of the Human Capital domain to inform data governance strategies
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to align data priorities with client needs and business objectives.

Client Engagement:

  • Work closely with clients and our business stakeholders to understand what data elements will be valuable to solve our clients current and emerging needs and driving Aon's commercial outcomes
  • Take a leadership role in the management and execution of the Human Capital Data & Analytics Client Council

Business Stakeholder Engagement and Training:

  • Provide regular updates to the Human Capital business on developments, new solutions, maintenance periods, etc
  • Provide regular training sessions to relevant stakeholders across the Human Capital business and create a repository of this training information
  • Communicate potential impacts to stakeholders.

Data Governance and Use Case Prioritization:

  • Develop and implement data governance frameworks tailored to Human Capital data.
  • Support the prioritization of data use cases, ensuring governance is integrated from the start.
  • Establish and lead a Data Governance forum for Human Capital to report progress, escalate risks, and drive issue remediation.

Data Quality and Stewardship:

  • Define and uphold data quality standards, including accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Monitor data quality and coordinate with engineering and data stewards to resolve issues.
  • Manage metadata and data cataloging in systems like Alation, including classifications and tagging.

Policy and Compliance:

  • Classify data according to sensitivity (e.g., PII, Confidential) and ensure compliance with legal, privacy, and contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Privacy, and Compliance teams to meet data usage and storage requirements.
  • Implement data lifecycle and retention policies in line with global and local requirements.
  • Ensure proper archival and deletion of data as per policy.
  • Collaborate with security teams to establish access controls and review access logs.

How this opportunity is different

The Data Owner for Human Capital is a pivotal role responsible for managing and governing data within the Human Capital domain. This position requires domain knowledge to ensure data strategies align with business objectives and client needs. At the same time, the role should understand data quality and establishing processes to uplift data quality. The Data Owner will work closely with business stakeholders to prioritize data initiatives, ensuring that data governance practices support the creation of strategic data assets and enhance client value.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • At least 8 years experience working within financial services or insurance and Human Capital domain will be advantageous.
  • Proven experience in driving change through others, getting leadership buy-in on key operational initiatives
  • Background in data-related fields such as data analysis
  • Strong affinity with trends in AI & Data, including data governance and quality.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information effectively.
  • Experience working in large, complex environments with a diverse range of stakeholders across multiple business units.
  • Ability to influence colleagues and related data areas toward best practices and technology adoption.
  • Passion for pushing automation and digitalization in data processes.
  • Adept at creating documentation and data dictionaries for internal and external users.
