Senior / Data Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for Senior / Data Engineers to design, build, and optimise scalable data platforms that support analytics and data-driven decision making across the organisation.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams including business stakeholders, analysts, and engineers to deliver robust data solutions and modernise data infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Solution Design
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions
- Design data architectures aligned with enterprise data strategy and governance standards
Data Pipeline Design & Development
- Build and maintain end-to-end data pipelines across ingestion, transformation, and serving layers (e.g. raw, curated, and business-ready datasets)
- Develop batch and real-time data processing workflows
- Implement data quality checks, validation, and monitoring
Data Modelling
- Design and implement data models (star schema, Snowflake, wide tables)
- Apply Slowly Changing Dimension (SCD) techniques for historical data tracking
Platform Optimisation & Maintenance
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise data pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency
- Improve reliability and maintainability of existing data systems
Data Governance & Best Practices
- Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and compliance standards
- Contribute to best practices in data engineering, including metadata management and lineage tracking
Collaboration
- Partner with data analysts, data scientists, and engineering teams to deliver business-impacting data solutions
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Requirements
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles
- Proven experience designing and implementing scalable data pipelines and platforms
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL
- Experience with data processing frameworks and APIs
- Solid understanding of data modelling techniques and SCD implementation
Data Platforms & Architecture
- Experience with modern data architectures (Data Lake, Data Warehouse, Lakehouse)
- Familiarity with distributed data processing and pipeline orchestration
Cloud & Tools
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Familiarity with tools such as Databricks, Airflow, or similar
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code and DevOps practices is a plus
Other Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams and manage stakeholders effectively
Nice to Have
- Experience with real-time streaming pipelines
- Exposure to data governance frameworks and regulatory environments
- Experience supporting large-scale data platform modernisation
