Data Architect – GCP Data Platform

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Data Architect to lead the assessment, modernization, governance, and standardization of our enterprise data platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in designing and implementing large-scale analytical platforms, including data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse architectures using modern medallion architecture principles (Bronze/Silver/Gold). This is a highly technical role requiring strong architecture capability combined with hands-on engineering execution.

The Data Architect will define standards, establish governance frameworks, create reusable engineering patterns, support CI/CD integration, and mentor engineering teams while building production-ready solutions using the GCP ecosystem.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Significant hands-on experience in Data Engineering, Data Architecture, or Analytics Platform development with strong code-level expertise.

• Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse solutions.

• Strong hands-on expertise with GCP services including BigQuery, Cloud SQL (Federated Query), Cloud Composer (Airflow), Dataflow (Apache Beam), Dataproc (Spark), Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub.

• Experience implementing Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) architecture or equivalent layered data platforms at scale.

• Strong background defining and enforcing data governance, engineering standards, and naming conventions across teams.

• Experience with dbt, Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, or equivalent transformation and open table format technologies.

• Practical experience implementing PII protection, data masking, tokenization, and row- and column-level security.

• Strong CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code experience using Terraform, Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, dbt, or equivalent tools.

• Proven ability to build reusable frameworks, accelerators, and boilerplate code adopted by engineering teams.

• Strong understanding of data quality frameworks, data contracts, monitoring, and pipeline observability.

• Experience with metadata/catalog tools such as Dataplex, Purview, Alation, or equivalent is an advantage.

Responsibilities :

• Assess and evaluate the current data engineering ecosystem, including medallion architecture, ingestion patterns, naming conventions, security controls, and data quality frameworks.

• Develop a prioritized roadmap for architecture modernization and platform improvements based on industry best practices.

• Build and maintain a comprehensive inventory of source systems and subject areas, covering both onboarded and future data sources.

• Define and standardize naming conventions for schemas, tables, views, orchestration jobs, and pipelines, including migration strategies for existing assets.

• Design and implement standardized ingestion and processing frameworks across Bronze/Silver/Gold (medallion) architecture layers.

• Establish reusable patterns for data ingestion, normalization, secure PII handling, data masking, tokenization, technical data quality tracking, access controls, late-arriving dimensions, and data export workflows.

• Define governance standards and operationalize exception management processes for justified deviations from architecture standards.

• Build modular, production-ready boilerplate frameworks and reusable templates using GCP services.

• Support CI/CD integration and modernization initiatives to improve deployment, testing, and developer productivity.

• Create and maintain a Source Onboarding Playbook to standardize new data source onboarding and production release processes.

• Mentor and enable engineering teams through documentation, workshops, walkthroughs, and hands-on guidance.

• Collaborate with engineering, security, DevOps, and business stakeholders to drive adoption of standards and architecture best practices.
