Crude Oil Trader
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Crude Oil Trader to manage trading activities across global crude oil markets, with a strong focus on China-related flows and counterparties. The role requires a deep understanding of international oil markets and the ability to actively engage with Chinese upstream and downstream participants.
The successful candidate will be responsible for executing trading strategies in physical crude oil and related derivatives, optimizing P&L while managing risk exposure, and expanding the company's commercial footprint in China and broader Asia.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and manage trading positions in crude oil (Brent, WTI, and related benchmarks), including physical and derivative instruments
- Develop trading strategies based on global supply-demand fundamentals, macroeconomic trends, and market flows
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Chinese and Asian counterparts, including refiners, trading houses, and end users
- Identify and capture trading opportunities in the China market, including arbitrage, term structures, and spot deals
- Collaborate with logistics, risk, financing, and operations teams to ensure smooth deal execution
- Monitor and manage trading exposure in line with internal risk limits and compliance requirements
- Analyse market data and provide trading insights and market intelligence
- Negotiate commercial terms, including pricing, delivery, and contract structures
- Support the expansion of the company's crude oil trading activities in China and the wider Asia region
Requirements
- 5-10+ years of experience in commodity trading, preferably focused on crude oil or energy products
- Strong understanding of global crude oil markets, including Brent/WTI benchmarks, pricing mechanisms, and arbitrage structures
- Proven experience working with Chinese market counterparties is highly preferred
- Established network across refiners, trading houses, or energy companies in China or Asia
- Strong commercial acumen and decision-making ability under fast-moving market conditions
- Solid risk awareness and disciplined approach to position management
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with international oil companies (IOCs) or major trading houses
- Exposure to both physical and paper (derivatives) trading
- Experience working across Asia and/or Middle East markets
- Existing relationships with Chinese state-owned or independent refiners
