Job Summary
The Counsellor / Social Worker provides holistic case management and counselling support to residents, facilitating their recovery through individual, group, and family interventions while integrating therapeutic practice, programme development, community engagement, and reintegration support.
Responsibilities
- Manage resident cases by conducting assessments, developing care plans, implementing interventions, and reviewing progress to support recovery goals
- Deliver individual and group counselling using evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to residents needs
- Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic group programmes to enhance residents coping skills and social functioning
- Coordinate and support group and community work initiatives that promote residents social integration
- Provide vocational and educational guidance to prepare residents for employment and lifelong learning
- Identify and secure external work opportunities liaise with employers to arrange job placements for residents
- Conduct pre-employment interviews and prepare residents for workforce reintegration through skills coaching and readiness assessments
- Perform home and workplace visits to monitor and support residents reintegration progress
- Collaborate with Singapore Prison Service and other stakeholders to coordinate resident placement and discharge plans
- Conduct intake, orientation, and comprehensive assessments for newly admitted residents to establish baseline needs
- Maintain accurate, timely client records, case notes, and programme data to ensure compliance and quality service delivery
- Ensure adherence to audit requirements and standards set by Singapore Prison Service and relevant authorities
- Plan, implement, and evaluate programmes and services to continuously improve resident outcomes
- Analyse programme trends and contribute to research activities to inform evidence-based practice
- Supervise and mentor interns by providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to build professional capacity
- Manage volunteers and counselling interns, including scheduling, training, and providing constructive feedback
- Interpret and apply relevant social service policies to advocate for residents rights and access to resources
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Social Work Manager to support organisational goals
Required competencies and certifications
- Degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, or related field
- Recognised professional qualification in counselling or social work
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Experience working in addiction recovery, mental health, or rehabilitation settings
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated through effective resident engagement
- Ability to work with individuals with complex needs, applying trauma-informed and person-centred care
- Strong organisational skills with proficiency in case documentation and data management
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
