Role Purpose
To provide accurate cost estimation for MEP equipment and on-site installation activities from an owner's perspective. This role supports procurement decisions, budget control, and value engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed cost estimates for direct supply items (transformers, UPS, switchgear, chillers, cooling towers, etc.) including equipment, freight, taxes, and delivery.
- For Installation Costing: Estimate on-site labor rates, subcontractor expenses, productivity factors, and installation efficiency for data centre fit-out.
- Benchmark costs against industry standards, historical data, and market intelligence.
- Support value engineering exercises by comparing alternative designs/materials.
- Work with procurement to validate supplier quotations and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare cost breakdowns for management approval and board presentations.
- Track actual vs estimated costs and provide variance analysis.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management.
- 5+ years in MEP costing or installation costing for data centres, industrial plants, or large-scale infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of data centre MEP systems (electrical, cooling, fire protection, BMS).
- Proficiency in cost estimation software and Excel.
- Understanding of local labour rates and subcontracting practices in Malaysia/SEA
