A leading regional construction / shipbuilding / civil engineering firm with a strong presence in Singapore. Known for delivering complex infrastructure, marine, and building projects with a commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability.

POSITION SUMMARY

The client isseeking a Contract Manager with a solid legal background to support their dynamic and growing operations. The ideal candidate will have legal training and significant experience in the construction or building industry in Singapore.

The Contract Manager will be responsible for managing, reviewing, and advising on all contractual and legal matters related to construction projects in Singapore.

This role will involve active participation in contract negotiation, risk assessment, dispute resolution, claims management, and compliance with local laws and project requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Contract Management & Administration:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various types of construction contracts (main contracts, subcontracts, consultancy agreements, etc.).
  • Manage contract lifecycle from pre-award to post-completion, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and statutory regulations.

Legal Advisory:

  • Provide legal advice on matters arising from construction contracts, including interpretation of terms and conditions, regulatory issues, and dispute avoidance.
  • Ensure alignment with Singapore construction laws (e.g., Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act, BCA regulations).

Claims & Dispute Resolution:

  • Prepare, evaluate, and respond to contractual claims, variations, and extension of time (EOT) requests.
  • Support or lead in the resolution of disputes, including mediation, adjudication, or arbitration, in collaboration with external counsel when necessary.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess potential legal and contractual risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in contractual risk reviews during tender stage and project execution.

Stakeholder Coordination:

  • Work closely with project managers, commercial teams, clients, consultants, subcontractors, and legal advisors to ensure contract compliance and protect company interests.
  • Represent the company in negotiations and meetings with clients or external parties.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in law (LLB) from a recognized institution; qualified to practice in Singapore or equivalent common law jurisdiction preferred.
  • Minimum 510 years of relevant experience in contract management, with prior exposure to construction or building projects in Singapore preferred.
  • Solid understanding of Singapore construction industry practices, public and private sector contracts (e.g., SIA, REDAS, PSSCOC, FIDIC).
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Experience in managing disputes, adjudications, and claims under the SOP Act is an advantage.
  • Able to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience working with or advising main contractors, developers, or consultants in Singapore.
  • Familiarity with construction / infrastructure / building projects would be advantageous.
  • Fluency in English.
