About the Opportunity
A reputable financial institution is seeking a Compliance Specialist to strengthen its Financial Crime Compliance function. This role is ideal for professionals with hands-on experience in transaction monitoring, AML investigations, and financial crime risk assessment within the banking sector.
You will be responsible for reviewing and investigating potentially suspicious transactions, providing advisory support to business and operations teams, and ensuring the bank remains compliant with regulatory requirements and internal AML/CFT standards.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Monitoring & Investigations
- Conduct detailed reviews of alerts generated through transaction monitoring systems and assess potential money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions, or other financial crime risks.
- Perform in-depth investigations on unusual transaction activities and document findings, risk assessments, and recommendations.
- Review and approve escalations relating to trade finance transactions, remittances, cash and cheque activities before referral to Compliance management where required.
- Analyse transactional behaviour and identify suspicious patterns, anomalies, or emerging risks.
Financial Crime Risk Management
- Support the identification, assessment, and mitigation of AML/CFT risks across various banking products and services.
- Escalate suspicious transactions in a timely manner and assist with regulatory reporting obligations.
- Conduct enhanced due diligence reviews related to transaction monitoring investigations, including trade-related activities where applicable.
- Maintain awareness of trade-based money laundering typologies, sanctions risks, and evolving financial crime trends.
Stakeholder Advisory
- Act as a subject matter resource for transaction monitoring matters and provide guidance to business units and operations teams.
- Partner with stakeholders to address transaction-related compliance concerns and support risk-based decision-making.
- Assist in resolving complex alerts and escalations through effective collaboration and communication.
Reporting & Compliance Support
- Support the preparation and review of AML management reports, watchlist monitoring reports, and regulatory submissions.
- Maintain and update internal risk lists, high-risk country databases, and transaction monitoring records.
- Assist with audits, regulatory reviews, compliance testing exercises, and management information requests.
- Contribute to KYC and AML-related projects when required.
Continuous Improvement
- Keep abreast of MAS regulations, sanctions developments, and industry best practices relating to financial crime compliance.
- Recommend enhancements to transaction monitoring processes, controls, and investigative procedures.
- Participate in compliance initiatives aimed at strengthening the bank's AML/CFT framework.
Requirements
- Degree-qualified with 3 to 5 years of experience within banking or financial services.
- At least 3 years of direct experience in AML/CFT Transaction Monitoring, Financial Crime Compliance, or AML Investigations.
- Exposure to trade finance transactions and trade-related enhanced due diligence would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of banking products, including trade finance, remittances, GIRO, cash and cheque transactions.
- Strong knowledge of MAS AML/CFT regulations, including MAS Notice 626, sanctions requirements, and financial crime compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrated investigative skills with the ability to analyse complex transaction patterns and identify potential risks.
- Strong written communication skills with experience preparing investigation reports, compliance assessments, and recommendations.
- Able to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Professional certifications such as ACAMS or ICA are highly preferred.
