Communications Director Emerging Technology
Location: Doha, Qatar
Harvine is looking for an experienced communications director to lead and grow our portfolio of work in the emerging technology sector.
The ideal candidate will bring senior strategic communications experience, strong technical literacy, and a proven ability to translate complex concepts into compelling messages for diverse stakeholders across multiple platforms and channels. They will have an established network of relevant media contacts, sound judgement advising senior leaders and technical experts, and a strong understanding of funding and investment ecosystems.
The candidate will also play a key role in supporting business growth building relationships, generating leads, and leading new business proposals and pitches while managing and developing a small team to deliver consistently high-quality work.
A genuine passion for emerging technology is essential, alongside strong interest and knowledge across areas such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, payment solutions, quantum computing, and nanotechnology.
This role is based in Qatar and offers an excellent opportunity for someone already in the region or looking to relocate to take advantage of expanding opportunities in this sector.
Core tasks:
- Lead and grow Harvine's portfolio of emerging technology clients.
- Develop and deliver strategic communications plans aligned to business and stakeholder objectives.
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling messaging for diverse audiences.
- Create and oversee multi-channel content (e.g., press materials, thought leadership, social, web)
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regional and international media; secure earned coverage and manage inquiries.
- Advise senior leaders and subject-matter experts on positioning, narratives, and spokesperson readiness.
- Support funding and investment-related communications, including announcements, narratives, and stakeholder outreach.
- Monitor the emerging tech landscape to identify opportunities and risks for clients and the company.
- Manage communications timelines, agencies/vendors, and budgets as needed; ensure high-quality delivery.
- Protect and enhance reputation through issues management, crisis preparedness, and rapid-response communications.
- Manage and mentor a small team, setting clear goals, providing feedback, and ensuring ongoing skills development and career growth.
- Support business growth by generating leads, building client relationships, and leading new business proposals and pitches.
Skills & Experience:
- 8+ years of progressive experience in senior strategic communications (director-level or equivalent), ideally in emerging technology, innovation, venture-backed businesses, fintech, or adjacent sectors.
- Strong technical literacy, with the ability to quickly grasp complex concepts and ask the right questions of subject-matter experts.
- Excellent writing and editorial judgement, producing clear, accurate, and audience-appropriate content across formats.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including high proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Highly knowledgeable about artificial intelligence (AI), including the latest developments around chatbots, large language models (LLMs), generative AI tools and other key aspects of AI.
- Proven media relations credibility, with an established network of relevant regional and/or international journalists and editors.
- Deep understanding of funding and investment environments (e.g., VC, growth capital, accelerators, corporate innovation) and how communications supports these ecosystems.
- Confidence advising senior stakeholders, with strong judgement, discretion, and the ability to operate effectively in high-visibility situations.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, including mentoring, coaching, and supporting professional development within a small team.
- Strong commercial mindset, with experience contributing to business development through relationship-building, proposals, and pitches.
- Exceptional organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-moving environment.
- Based in Qatar or willing to relocate, with the ability to work effectively across regional and international stakeholder groups.
