Commodity Analyst – Petrochemical and Shipping
Locations: Dubai/Shanghai/Singapore
We are seeking a high-calibre Trading Analyst to join our global trading team, with responsibilities spanning both the oil tanker/shipping markets and key petrochemical value chains. This role is suited to candidates with strong fundamental market knowledge, modelling capability, and the ambition to progress into a future risk-taking trading position.
Key Responsibilities
Integrated Market Analysis (Tanker + Petrochemicals)
- Analyse market structure and dynamics across oil tankers, liquid bulk shipping, olefins, and aromatics, identifying major supply, demand, and freight drivers.
- Build, maintain, and refine supply–demand models for both major tanker freight sectors and petrochemical products such as PTA, PX, Benzene, PP, and PE.
- Monitor physical and paper (FFA) shipping markets alongside China futures pricing for petrochemical products, generating timely, actionable insights for the trading desk.
- Evaluate China's olefin and aromatics fundamentals and understand how domestic market shifts influence regional and global flows.
- Contribute to broader feedstock analytics—including naphtha and LPG—to help shape an integrated trading view across shipping and petrochemical value chains.
- Provide high-quality analytical support to traders, influencing strategy, positioning, and commercial decision-making.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of liquid bulk shipping, tanker freight markets, and/or China petrochemical fundamentals.
- Ability to build robust analytical and forecasting models, including S&D frameworks and pricing tools.
- Experience with physical trading, FFAs, or China futures markets is beneficial.
- >3 years of relevant experience in a trading house, commodities firm, or buy-side hedge fund preferred.
- Excellent quantitative skills, attention to detail, and ability to operate in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Strong communication skills and commercial mindset.
