Petrochemical Analyst
Location: Shanghai | Singapore | Dubai
We are working with a leading global investment and trading hedge fund seeking a Petrochemical Analyst to support discretionary and systematic trading teams across the petrochemical and downstream oil complex.
This role sits close to the trading desk and will focus on fundamental market analysis, supply-demand modelling, and trade idea generation across global petrochemical value chains.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop deep fundamental coverage of petrochemical markets, including olefins, aromatics, polymers, and refining by-products
- Build and maintain regional and global supply / demand balances, integrating plant operating rates, capacity expansions, turnarounds, and feedstock dynamics
- Track pricing relationships across the crude naphtha / LPG petrochemical derivative product chain
- Generate actionable trade views for traders and portfolio managers across physical, derivatives, and structured exposures
- Analyse inventory flows, freight dynamics, arbitrage economics, and cross-regional spreads
- Work closely with trading, research, and risk teams to translate market insights into positionable strategies
- Support development of data pipelines, dashboards, and modelling tools to enhance market monitoring and decision-making
Requirements
- 310+ years experience covering petrochemicals, refining, or downstream energy markets at a trading house, hedge fund, bank, or major producer
- Strong understanding of global petrochemical value chains, pricing benchmarks, and regional trade flows
- Demonstrated ability to produce independent market views and investment-relevant research
- Quantitative mindset with experience in Excel / Python / data analysis tools preferred
- Commercial awareness and ability to operate in a fast-moving trading environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact directly with senior traders / PMs
