Our client, a well-established metal trading company, is seeking an experienced Commercial & Technical Manager to drive business growth across East Asia. This role combines technical expertise in structural steel with commercial responsibilities in ferrous and non-ferrous scrap trading.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new business opportunities, delivering value engineering solutions, managing key customer relationships, and expanding the company's regional metals trading activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial & Business Development
- Develop and grow the structural steel business by identifying and securing new project opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, contractors, fabricators, consultants, and other key industry stakeholders.
- Prepare quotations, tenders, technical proposals, and commercial offers.
- Lead contract negotiations and ensure commercially competitive solutions.
- Achieve sales targets while maximising profitability.
Technical & Value Engineering
- Review structural designs and recommend value engineering solutions to optimise material usage and reduce project costs.
- Provide technical support on steel grades, fabrication methods, and construction applications.
- Work closely with customers and engineering teams to deliver cost-effective solutions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and project specifications.
Ferrous & Non-Ferrous Scrap Trading
- Source and procure ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials from suppliers, recyclers, industrial customers, and dealers.
- Develop and manage supplier and customer relationships across the region.
- Negotiate pricing, quality specifications, commercial terms, and contracts.
- Coordinate logistics, inspections, and delivery schedules.
- Monitor market trends, pricing movements, and supply-demand dynamics to identify profitable trading opportunities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Metallurgy, Business, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in structural steel sales, commercial management, business development, or technical sales.
- Experience in value engineering for structural steel projects.
- Exposure to ferrous and/or non-ferrous scrap trading or procurement will be highly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of structural steel products, fabrication processes, steel grades, and construction applications.
- Excellent commercial acumen with strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience preparing tenders, quotations, and technical proposals.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD or structural engineering software is an advantage.
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
