Job Scope
As a Line Manager, you will be entrusted with the capital and resources necessary to manage and scale profitable maritime services. You will be responsible for the end-to-end financial performance of specific vessel-provided services, with a mandate to optimize costs, maximize yields, and expand the business footprint within your assigned geographical scope.
Primary Responsibilities
- Asset Selection: Identify and deploy vessels with optimal intake and fuel efficiency, balancing technical specifications against port constraints and dues.
- Performance Monitoring: Oversee daily vessel speed and bunker consumption to ensure alignment with Time Charter Descriptions (TCD) and historical benchmarks.
- Vendor Negotiation: Secure berthing windows and lead negotiations for terminal contracts, focusing on rebates, volume incentives, and discounts.
- Risk Management: Resolve cargo, container, and vessel damage claims in coordination with legal counsel.
- Market Intelligence: Analyze trade statistics and competitor tonnage to navigate supply/demand fluctuations and maintain high utilization.
- Product Differentiation: Enhance service frequency and coverage through independent deployment or strategic slot-swap agreements.
- Schedule Integrity: Ensure high reliability for feeder-to-mother vessel connections, providing clients with transparent and timely operational updates.
- Marketing Synergy: Collaborate with commercial teams to forecast seasonal demand and anticipate shifts in MLO (Main Line Operator) requirements.
- Yield Optimization: Manage vessel space to prioritize high-NTV (Net To Vessel) cargo and balance structured deals with open-market slots.
- Pricing Strategy: Implement rate quotations, General Rate Increases (GRI), and cost-recovery mechanisms (CBR/RR) in line with market trends.
- Client Engagement: Actively participate in key account tenders and maintain high-level relationships with global stakeholders through strategic travel and networking.
- Agency Management: Oversee regional agents to ensure seamless vessel operations and local customer relationship management.
- Feasibility Studies: Continuously evaluate existing routes for efficiency and conduct data-driven studies for new service launches.
- Partnerships: Lead the formation of consortia and Vessel Sharing Agreements (VSA) to expand market reach.
- Relationship Capital: Building and maintaining a robust network with port operators, business partners, and key clients.
- Strategic Foresight: Maintaining a long-term outlook to identify future pitfalls and asset requirements.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Business Management, or a related field.
- More than 7 years of experience within a shipping line, specifically focused on trade and line management.
- An independent, result-oriented strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial flair.
- Willingness to travel internationally and remain available for out-of-hours operational requirements.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to influence internal stakeholders and external partners.
