Commercial Counsel, APAC

Business-level proficiency in Japanese is required, as the role involves regular interaction with Japanese-speaking stakeholders and support for matters relating to the Japan market.

Our client is a globally established organisation with a strong and growing presence across Asia Pacific, operating in a highly commercial and cross-border environment. This opportunity sits within a collaborative regional legal team supporting diverse business lines.

Key Responsibilities of this Commercial Counsel, APAC:

• Provide legal support across multiple APAC jurisdictions, working closely with regional stakeholders
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements (including supply, services, and complex project-related contracts)
• Advise on legal risk, compliance, and business strategy in a practical, solutions-oriented manner
• Partner with cross-functional teams on regional and cross-border initiatives
• Manage external counsel and oversee competing legal matters and priorities
• Contribute to the development of legal frameworks, policies, and best practices
• Work closely with Japanese-speaking stakeholders across the business

Key Requirements of this Commercial Counsel, APAC:

• Qualified lawyer (Singapore or other common law jurisdiction preferred)
• Mandatory: Fluency in Japanese (business level or above) - ability to support stakeholders and review documentation in Japanese
• Strong experience in commercial contracting and general corporate advisory work
• Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, regional environment
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence across cultures and seniority levels
• Pragmatic, commercially minded and able to provide clear, business-focused advice
