Role Overview
The Cloud Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and securing cloud-based systems across Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) and Commercial Cloud (CC) environments. This role focuses on cloud architecture, security governance, infrastructure automation, DevOps enablement, and compliance with government IT policies and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy secure cloud solutions within GCC and CC environments, ensuring compliance with security and network boundary control requirements.
- Architect scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-native solutions, leveraging modern cloud platforms and containerization technologies.
- Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, and security configurations in accordance with IM8 policies and industry best practices.
- Implement and manage cloud security controls, monitoring tools, and governance frameworks to maintain a strong security posture.
- Deploy, configure, and upgrade cloud resources while adhering to established security and compliance standards.
- Monitor cloud environments, proactively identify security risks, troubleshoot issues, and optimize resource utilization and cost management.
- Collaborate with Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) and internal stakeholders to implement improvements and enhance overall cloud security and operational effectiveness.
- Investigate and resolve complex cloud and security-related issues, documenting solutions and lessons learned.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using industry-standard tools to improve automation, consistency, and governance.
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, integrating security controls and compliance checks throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
- Automate development, deployment, and release processes through DevOps and security automation practices.
- Support Proof of Concept (POC) initiatives to evaluate and implement end-to-end cloud and DevOps solutions.
- Promote Agile methodologies and ensure security considerations are integrated throughout the development lifecycle.
- Ensure project deliverables align with technical design specifications, security requirements, and operational standards.
- Support project management activities, including status reporting, task tracking, procurement coordination, and stakeholder communications.
- Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT), project documentation, and solution sign-off processes.
- Work closely with vendors, partners, application teams, and infrastructure teams to implement and support secure cloud solutions.
- Prepare technical documentation, operational procedures, and user guides for Cloud Operations teams.
- Continuously review existing cloud environments and recommend improvements to security controls, processes, automation, and technologies.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 8–15 years of experience in cloud architecture, infrastructure engineering, cloud operations, and cybersecurity.
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and managing secure cloud environments, preferably within AWS.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools such as Terraform, ARM Templates, Ansible, PowerShell, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience deploying and supporting high-availability, fault-tolerant systems and databases.
- Proven experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices within cloud environments.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Knowledge of Windows and Linux/Unix server administration and network management.
- Familiarity with container technologies, cloud-native architecture patterns, and microservices.
- Strong knowledge of cloud security frameworks, IAM, network security, monitoring, and compliance controls.
- Good understanding of ITIL processes, including Incident, Problem, Change, Configuration, and Service Management.
- Familiarity with Singapore Government policies and frameworks such as IM8, cybersecurity standards, and data protection requirements.
