Class 4 Lorry Driver

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Operating and driving a lorry to transport goods and materials over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule
• Inspecting vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance
• Complying with lorry driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
• Planning routes and meeting delivery schedules
• Loading and unloading cargo from the lorry, often with the help of a forklift or other machinery
• Collecting and verifying delivery instructions, including signatures from customers
• Reporting defects, accidents or violations
• Maintaining a logbook of their driving activities to ensure compliance with federal regulations governing the rest and work periods for operators
• Keeping the lorry and associated equipment clean and in good working order
• Communicating effectively with clients or dispatchers about delays or problems on the route
• Class 4 driving license required
