Job Description

We seek an experienced and sophisticated professional who can inspire funders. The selected candidate will bring poise and enthusiasm, a sense of optimism, and a readiness to share the field's urgency to significantly increase climate philanthropy.

The Chief Executive Officer will ensure the Advisory is grounded in serving its mission and the ecosystem, is receptive to feedback and opportunities, and iterates throughout the Advisory's start-up years to adapt and improve.

Responsibilities

  • Build the vision and strategy of the Advisory from its start-up phase
  • Build and lead the necessary teams, policies, systems and networks to deliver the work of the Advisory.
  • Lead the team to develop and implement strategies, design a menu of climate opportunities and cultivate venues that help clientele scale their giving.
  • Connect and forge strategic alliances with key stakeholders and intermediaries in the climate ecosystem to widen the Advisory's access to ultra-high net worth individuals.
  • Manage and correspond with internal and external stakeholders, such as the Advisory's Board of Directors and Advisory Council.
  • Direct managerial responsibility for the Climate and Philanthropy Directors, and Head of Operations ensuring best practices are followed and goals are achieved.
  • Overall oversight of the ACPA team, staff development and culture stewardship
  • Representation of the Advisory in the broader climate and philanthropy ecosystems

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum 18-20 years of work experience, including successful track record in fundraising and principal gifts including significant multi-year pledges with progressive career advancement including executive leadership experience.
  • Extensive networks across Asia and a deep understanding of fundraising, with the ability to translate these skills into the Asian context, effectively engaging key donors and partners in the region. Experience living and working in-country in more than one Asian nation, and fluency in an Asian language are pluses.
  • Knowledge of climate-related issues and sectors, with an established reputation and proven track record within the Asian philanthropic community that inspires donor confidence and that can credibly champion the Advisory's climate-first approach.
  • Experience securing large-ticket funding deals with a sharp understanding of ultra-high-net-worth gift activation and progression, including the ability to mentor peers, engage philanthropists, and lead donor engagement strategies across diverse networks. Fundraising expertise must be coupled with a field-generous mindset and a committed ecosystem approach to building climate philanthropy in Asia.
  • Expert communication and collaboration skills with a diverse set of partners. The Chief Executive Officer must be an effective listener and thoughtful communicator, able to influence diplomatically in global settings while managing relationships in Asia and other key regions. Public speaking experience is essential.
  • Strong strategic vision coupled with the foresight and agility to anticipate future trends and their potential impact on the climate space. A demonstrated track record of translating strategic priorities into actionable and measurable outcomes to drive results is essential.
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in fast-paced, innovative environments, energised by building impactful, new ventures that address climate change on a global scale.
  • Experience leading start-up teams and developing core strategies are essential.
  • Mission-aligned with climate priorities, possessing both an objective and strategic mindset on critical areas for climate impact, with the ability to work across multi-sector networks, partnerships, and funding groups.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, optimism, and urgency to significantly increase climate philanthropy, in line with the Advisory's mission and vision.
  • Strong value-holder with the principal networks across Asia (specifically across South East Asia and East Asia), credibility, and strategic capabilities needed to build the Advisory's pipeline.
