Chief Architect / Senior Enterprise Architect

We are currently looking to hire a Chief Architect / Senior Enterprise Architect. The ideal candidate will have strong background in Java development, with experience in designing and implementing scalable and efficient microservice architectures.

We are executing a clean-slate rebuild of core technology platforms. Legacy systems are being sunset, unnecessary layers collapsed, and a production-grade digital backbone is being redesigned to withstand peak load, partial failures, regulatory scrutiny, and long-term operational demands.

This is not incremental modernization. This is a foundational architectural reset.

We are hiring a Chief Architect to take end-to-end ownership of enterprise and platform architecture across the Group, defining how technology is built, run, and evolved for the next decade.

This is not an advisory role. This is a hands-on, decision-making architecture leadership role.

Type : Contract - 6+6 months (potential to extend)

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role appeals to:

• Infra-heavy, SRE-leaning, or kernel/network-aware architects from hyperscalers.
• Senior architects from banking, payments, telco, or regulated infrastructure with deep resilience and risk experience.

We do not hire by logo. We hire based on what you have built, owned, and operated under real load.

Key Responsibilities

System and Service Architecture

• Define domain-aligned service boundaries with explicit ownership.
• Ensure clear isolation of failure domains and blast radius.
• Apply microservices where appropriate, avoiding unnecessary operational risk.
• Use coarser-grained services or monoliths where simplicity and reliability outweigh distribution.

Integration and Eventing

• Drive API-first integration with strict versioning, compatibility, and deprecation discipline.
• Architect event-driven systems with real-world constraints:
• Back-pressure and flow control
• Replay semantics and idempotency
• Ordering guarantees and trade-offs
• Poison message handling and dead-letter strategies
• Replace brittle point-to-point integrations with resilient patterns.

Infrastructure and Runtime Primitives

• Design container orchestration and scheduling behavior.
• Implement resource isolation, CPU/memory contention management, and noisy-neighbor control.
• Define networking models (ingress/egress, east-west traffic, L4 vs L7 trade-offs).
• Architect load balancing, queueing, rate limiting, and circuit breaking.
• Optimize event streaming internals, partitioning strategies, and throughput vs latency trade-offs.
• Enforce secrets management, workload identity, and zero-trust principles.

Your architecture will underpin systems handling 400,000 parcels per day across postal, logistics, e-commerce, and cross-border flows with spiky, unpredictable traffic patterns.

Expectations

This is not a diagram-only role. You will:

• Use C4, UML, sequence diagrams, and ADRs as tools to explain real systems.
• Reason at the code and protocol level.
• Understand thread pools, async execution, blocking behavior, and contention under load.
• Design for observability before failure:
• Metrics that expose saturation
• Logs that survive partial outages
• Traces that reflect causality, not noise
• Build systems operable by humans who did not design them.

You are designing for survivability and operability, not elegance.
