Job Description

A leading global FMCG organisation is seeking a Channel and Category Assistant Manager to take ownership of the end-to-end management and performance of assigned categories and channels. This will be a 6-months contract role, offering the opportunity to drive category growth, maximise profitability, and execute strategic objectives across diverse retail environments.

What youll do:

As a Channel and Category Assistant Manager you will play an integral part in shaping the future of assigned categories across multiple retail channels.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive category and channel strategies that align with overall business objectives by identifying growth opportunities through shopper insights, market trends, and competitive analysis.
  • Define optimal product assortment for each channel while collaborating with Revenue & Trade Management to establish pricing for new products and promotional guidelines that balance competitiveness with profitability.
  • Monitor key performance indicators such as sales, market share, margin, distribution, and conversion rates to evaluate opportunities, risks, and gaps within assigned categories.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis using syndicated sources to inform actionable plans that improve profitability and drive incremental growth.
  • Lead the execution of category initiatives across various channels including hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience stores, traditional trade outlets, eCommerce platforms, and other partners.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales and Trade Marketing teams to optimise in-store visibility through effective use of POSM materials and shelf performance enhancements.
  • Ensure channel differentiation by tailoring strategies based on unique shopper missions and channel dynamics for each retail environment.
  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, and external partners to facilitate seamless execution of category initiatives while driving joint business plans.
  • Leverage shopper studies and market analytics to understand demand translate these insights into actionable recommendations for both category strategies and channel execution.
  • Lead category-related projects from planning through execution to post-evaluation by managing timelines, budgets, stakeholder alignment, and championing continuous improvement initiatives.

What you bring:

Your proven track record in Category Management or Trade Marketing within the FMCG industry will set you up for success as a Channel and Category Assistant Manager.

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics or a related field is required.
  • At least six years experience in Category Management, Trade Marketing or Sales within the fast-moving consumer goods sector.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analysing syndicated data sources such as Nielsen or Kantar to inform strategic decisions.
  • Exceptional communication skills enabling you to negotiate effectively with both internal teams and external partners while presenting compelling business cases.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders simultaneously while fostering cross-functional alignment throughout project lifecycles.
  • Strong commercial acumen coupled with a thorough understanding of retail dynamics across various channels including modern trade formats and eCommerce platforms.
  • A proactive approach combined with a results-oriented mindset that enables you to manage end-to-end category initiatives successfully.
  • Experience leading projects from planning through execution including budget management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to leverage shopper studies along with market analytics to translate insights into actionable recommendations for category growth.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement demonstrated by championing process enhancements within category management.
