Responsibilities

Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to fully understand project requirements and specifications

Take precise measurements and calculate the size and amount of materials needed for each project

Cut, shape, and smooth lumber, wood, plastic, fiberglass, and other materials according to exact measurements

Construct and install building frameworks including walls, floors, doorframes, and ceilings

Install structures and fixtures such as windows, doors, molding, cabinets, stairs, and trim work

Build and install cabinets, vanities, furniture, shelves, and other wooden fixtures

Erect scaffolding, temporary structures, and support systems for construction projects

Inspect existing structures and conduct repairs or maintenance on damaged or defective components

Assess the quality of woodwork and materials to ensure they meet project standards

Operate hand tools and power tools including saws, drills, nail guns, sanders, and measuring equipment

Follow all safety guidelines, building codes, and health regulations at construction sites

Maintain a clean and safe work environment by removing debris and organizing materials

Instruct and direct laborers and construction helpers as needed

Document work completed and maintain accurate project records

Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and team members throughout the project

Required Skills & Qualifications

Completion of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship program or minimum of 2 years of experience as a journey-level carpenter
