Business Data Analyst (Banking)

The Company

Our client is a leading global financial institution with a strong presence in securities, banking, and financial markets. The team is looking for a Banking Data Analyst who can work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, analyse data, and translate insights into clear, actionable business outcomes.

This role is suitable for someone who is not overly technical, but has strong hands-on experience with data, dashboards, and reporting tools. The ideal candidate should be confident engaging with business users, asking the right questions, clarifying requirements, and presenting findings in a clear and professional manner.

The Role

• Work closely with business stakeholders across banking/securities teams to gather requirements, understand pain points, and translate business needs into data and reporting deliverables.
• Analyse business data to identify trends, gaps, risks, and opportunities that support decision-making.
• Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualisations using tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
• Use SQL to extract, validate, and analyse data from internal systems and databases.
• Present data findings and insights clearly to non-technical business users, ensuring information is easy to understand and commercially relevant.
• Support business reporting, KPI tracking, performance monitoring, and operational data analysis.
• Partner with technology, data, and business teams to ensure reporting requirements are properly understood and delivered.
• Conduct data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks to ensure accuracy and reliability of reports.
• Document business requirements, report logic, data definitions, and analysis outcomes.
• Help improve existing reporting processes, dashboards, and data workflows to enhance efficiency and business usability.

Your Profile

• Minimum 4-7 years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Data Analyst, Reporting Analyst, or similar role within banking, securities, financial services, or a regulated environment.
• Strong business-facing experience, with the ability to engage confidently with stakeholders and communicate clearly with non-technical users.
• Hands-on experience with Tableau and/or Power BI for dashboard development, reporting, and data visualisation.
• Strong working knowledge of SQL for data extraction, analysis, and validation.
• Good understanding of banking, securities, financial products, operations, risk, finance, or regulatory reporting would be advantageous.
• Ability to translate business requirements into clear data analysis, reporting outputs, and dashboard solutions.
• Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with large data sets.
• Good problem-solving skills with the ability to explain insights in a simple and structured way.
• Experience with Python for data analysis or automation would be good to have, but not mandatory.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced banking environment with multiple stakeholders and changing priorities.
