Job Summary
You will prepare and paint surfaces by reading blueprints, making on-site preparations, mixing paints, and applying finishes using various tools while adhering to safety precautions and negotiating costs.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and instructions to assess surfaces and determine the scope and materials needed for painting work
- Prepare work sites by building scaffolding and covering fixtures to protect surrounding areas
- Prepare walls and surfaces by scraping, sanding, and removing old paint to ensure proper adhesion
- Fill cracks and holes with appropriate materials such as plaster to create smooth surfaces
- Mix paint and other materials to achieve the correct color and texture as specified
- Apply paint, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, caulking guns, and other tools according to instructions
- Calculate costs for painting jobs and negotiate prices with clients or supervisors
- Follow all health and safety precautions to maintain a safe work environment
- Work flexibly across shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays as required
- Maintain manual dexterity and balance to safely work on scaffolding and ladders
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Proven experience as a painter
- Excellent knowledge of painting materials and their selection, mixing, and application
- Solid knowledge of commercial and construction painting techniques
- Aptitude in using appropriate painting tools
- Conscientiousness with great attention to detail
