About the Role:
Brighton College (Singapore), is seeking an inspirational Technician for Design & Technology and Art to join our expanding school community from August 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting the creative and technical learning environment as Brighton College (Singapore) grows from a first-class Prep School into one of the region's leading all-through schools, offering education from Pre-Nursery to Year 13.
This role is to support the Design & Technology and Art teaching teams in the upkeep and management of workshops, maker spaces, and art studios, ensuring they are safe, well-organised, and equipped for creative learning. The Technician will assist in preparing materials, maintaining resources, and supporting practical lessons both within and outside the classroom. The aim is to create an inspiring, secure, and nurturing environment where students can explore creativity, develop technical skills, and enjoy hands-on learning experiences.
What you will be doing:
Design & Technology
- Under the direction of the School DT and STEM Team Lead, participate fully in the preparation of student-centred learning activities and support teaching and learning where necessary
- Ensure that the environment in the Maker Spaces and DT Workshop is well-managed, properly ordered, neatly presented, and that inventory and resources are maintained
- Ensure that the equipment in the Maker spaces is kept well and utilised regularly for various projects and learning opportunities
- Supporting wood, metal, plastics, textiles, electronics and CAD/CAM projects
- Maintaining machinery, hand tools, laser cutters, 3D printers, and sewing machines
- Preparing materials for prototyping, model-making and product design
- Supporting GCSE / IGCSE / A-level style coursework and project work
- Provide training and assistance to the school DT team with regard to the equipment in the Maker Spaces.
- Liaise with teaching staff and prepare for Taster days and Open Houses, miscellaneous workshops and competitions. Art Support
- In addition to Design & Technology, the post-holder will provide practical and technical support to the Art Department, particularly in the preparation, organisation and presentation of materials and exhibitions.
- Prepare art materials and resources for lessons, exhibitions, and student projects.
- Maintain art studios and ensure proper storage and handling of supplies (e.g., paints, canvases, digital art tools).
- Assist in setting up displays for student artwork and school exhibitions.
- Provide guidance and technical assistance for students working on art projects, including digital media. General
- To provide any other reasonable duties delegated by the School Management.
- Work with Health and Safety and facilities teams in ensuring safety and compliance with the regulations in place for workshops and studios to be able to operate seamlessly
- Representing the Design & Technology and Art department as a member of the Health & Safety Committee.
- Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
Who we are looking for:
- Ability to work under pressure and use of initiative is essential
- Possess highly developed interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Excellent verbal and written English skills
- Good references on request
- Mentor pupils on their personal Design and Technology and Art projects
- Experience working as a Design & Technology technician, workshop technician, maker space technician or art technician
- Knowledge of workshop production methods and their safe operations (ie woodworking tools)
- Willingness to learn and grow new skills on the job
- Experience with Textiles/sewing and digital production tools (preferred)
- International experience (preferred).
